it's kind of a silly mockery but I guess it's supposed to be an April Fools joke...

"It was a battle between old versus new. The slicked back hair versus the
bald guy. Jim Les faced off against Geno Ford in a chess match Wednesday
to become the new women’s tennis coach."

I am sure you'll die laughing...

And a different Scout writer tries the same stupid ploy...
"In a shocking announcement, men’s basketball coach Geno Ford has decided to leave the program
after just one season on the Hilltop to coach a YMCA-30-and over team."

Every year the Scout does 'The Sprout' a poorly veiled, and in my opinion poorly written, attempt at satire to coincide with April Fools. These articles are that.

Most any sports coverage in the Scout is simply a rehash of last weeks news from the PJ Star or this board.

I always enjoyed the Sprout April Fools Day edition. These 2 about Geno weren't the best, but not completely terrible.

I like to read buscout.com on Fridays during my lunch break at work, and I have never noticed anything rehashed from a message board (especially this one) in the Scout. That would be pretty poor journalism, even for students. Having worked there as a BU student and personally knowing the current adviser (who is a BU grad, wrote for the Scout, and now writes for the PJ Star) I doubt he would let something be published with its only source being what someone says on a message board. Maybe what came up in a message board led to follow-up interviews that led to a story, but that would be about it.

You have to remember they put out 1 edition each week for most of the school year. And when compared to a daily newspaper or a popular internet message board updated hourly, of course it will seem dated or re-hashed. Living in Chicagoland, the PJ Star's coverage of anything north of I-80 or anything on a national level seems rehashed when compared to the Tribune's coverage. Doesn't mean the writing is poor though. I still think Kirk and Dave are top notch compared to other sports writers.
