  • Alternate to the heavy eastern ESPN bias....

Rupert Murdoch & his network of Fox channels are going to launch a NEW
all-sports network to rival ESPN -- and tho they are likely to be east coast in origin - just maybe they will know where Illinois is on a map!
At least they will provide some competition in a field where there is little now..

...for a price. Isn't Murdoch's networks famous for bringing mainstream sports to PPV in other countries?

Will this new network have "homer" announcers that openly cheer for one side over the other?

maybe, but one big plus is that none of them will be Dick Vitale or Bobby Knight

Why not. The other networks do the same thing don't they?

Murdoch is simply reacting to NBC's Sports new push - who is actually in a much better position to develop an ESPN competitor. Murdoch saw Disney and NBC, two of their three main competitors, with strong (or soon-to-be) sports channels and reacted. NBC can make big inroads using the olympics and Sunday night football. If they can snag Dan Patrick and run him against Mike and Mike (morning talk is the most important sports segment to capture) they will have the foundation of a formidable team to run against ESPN. Fox has football and baseball, but aren't allied with people who are going to drive commentary and viewership. Their most famous sports personality is Joe Buck (who I like, but most don't) is a big name only because his father was Jack Buck.

I am not so sure -- Murdoch has forged new ground and gone many times where nobody has gone before - he is an innovator...
despite endlessly being told he was going to fail - yet he not only succeeds, he beats all his rivals consistently....enough so that he has made plenty of enemies in the media community -

Should be great exposure for the Alabama Crimson Tide

I figured it out. Murdoch is responsible for those "booms" in Wisconsin. The new Fox anchor will be the "Boom goes the dynamite!" guy.
