I think he is a good hire for SIU. He has been successful in the past. The only thing that upsets me about it is that it ruins my Bruce Weber will be coach at SIU next year statement I made 3-4 months ago. I was so close. Oh well.

Here is a pretty good definition-

NCAA strictly prohibits the director of basketball operations from coaching, assisting in coaching or recruiting.
By the way, can anyone name any other instance in history where a Director of Basketball Operations was hired as a D1 coach by any other school?
I doubt anyone with Hinson's experience went back as DBO either.....it's not like he stepped away from the game....I'm still kind of surprised but glad they hired Barry....

You will get a chance to redeem yourself - where do you think BW will end up next year?

I always said at least he won't be an announcer with that voice. And I guess CBS had him do that. So I guess I have failed you. I don't know.

Hinson article
also - no sooner will Barry Hinson take over for SIU when he will face a familiar opposing coach...
"The Salukis pulled out of the eight-team Charleston (S.C.) Classic ....
.. and will now play in the World Vision Classic from Dec. 20-22,
according to associate head coach Tom Hankins. Utah State of the
Western Athletic Conference is the host of the four-team round-robin event,
which also includes Nicholls State and UC-Davis.
SIU will play three games in three days at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270) in Logan, Utah."
So Barry will face Jim Les and UC-Davis in this event.....

That tournament had a quality field of teams with Baylor, St. Johns, Dayton, Colorado, BC, and Charleston. It makes you wonder if SIU isn't pulling out to save face and participate in an easier tournament.

I agree with you -- that appears to be the reason and a whole lot of the Saluki fans also think that's the reason..
