Here is a slightly humorous headline from the University of Kansas newspaper. They don't even get the name of the university right-
Hinson to coach at University of Southern Illinois

He is a very likeable guy in the public eye, and was one of my favorite coaches in the Valley during his tenure at Missouri St. Will be good to have him back in the Valley!
Feel bad for C-Low, as he did his best. Don't feel bad for his bank account though.

The years at Kansas don't bother me. I just wouldn't want a coach that was fired at a conference rival as the head coach of my school.
I think it is great for eight teams in the Valley (I don't know how a MSU fan would feel about seeing their old head coach back in the conference). We already know him and as others have pointed out, he'll be a hit on banquet circuit.Attached Files1996 & 2019

It's the NCAA that defines the DBO as a non-coaching position. They are not allowed by NCAA rules to be involved in coaching activities, and cannot be involved in recruiting, other than hosting a campus visitor.
Here is a pretty good definition-
Learn how to do just about everything at ehow. Find expert advice along with How To videos and articles, including instructions on how to make, cook, grow, or do almost anything.
NCAA strictly prohibits the director of basketball operations from coaching, assisting in coaching or recruiting.
By the way, can anyone name any other instance in history where a Director of Basketball Operations was hired as a D1 coach by any other school?

Yes, technically Berruh has not been coaching, but let's be real- the DBO at Kansas has his hand in the game at a major level... He is hardly a typical DBO, who are usually younger up and comer types...
Additionally, Hinson has a 12 plus year record as a D-1 Head Coach, so he is hardly a greenhorn.... NO different than a coach going to work as an analyst between gigs IMO...
And while it wasn't a D1 job, the guy he replaced at Kansas, Brett Ballard, did get a head coaching gig at an NAIA school from his DBO job...???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???
