  • New ESPN story - about K-State's Frank Martin

Kansas State coach Frank Martin says he regularly paid collegiate players who had played for him in high school when they had nowhere else to turn.

I know he will be portrayed as being a "good guy" for helping out some kids, but this might have violated some rules?

Martin didn't say he "paid his players" as you put it. He wasn't paying current players on his college teams. What he said was that he gave money to guys at other schools that used to play for him when he coached at the high school level.

I'm not saying he was right to do so, but that's a huge difference from paying someone currently on your team as you implied.

      Exactly.

Side note. Frank Martin has to be the most intimidating coach right now.
Well let me just quote the late-great Colonel Sanders, who said..."I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."

Looks like he is leaving K-State

Kansas State coach Frank Martin has accepted the head-coach position with the South Carolina Gamecocks, he confirmed in a text message to ESPN.com.

This sounds a lot like how Rick Majerus got in trouble in Utah. There's probably a violation, but the coach didn't really do anything wrong (if the article is correct).

NCAA puts school on three-year probation for lack of control, mainly on basketball team.

"This would be like Fatburger or Pink's hot dogs," said Majerus, who characterized many of the meals as counseling sessions, including one with Keith Van Horn after the player's father died.

"I guess the only thing I should have done was said, 'You owe me nine dollars for the ham and eggs and sausage.' I've got to think with my head and not with my heart."
I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

According to Andy Katz he would be a top candidate, but not the only one.
