"Resigns" is the official word but he was sorta forced out less than 2 years on the job - after pretty much everyone working for U of I got fed up with heavy-handedness, corruption, and arrogance...
The last U of I president was also forced out under similar circumstances...
so is this an example of... "absolute power corrupts absolutely"??
Remember this -- only 2 months after he took over the job he was already intimidating anyone who disagreed with him and rewarding all his cronies with HUGE cash bonuses and pay raises even though everyone else was in a cash crunch!!
then he directed his Chief of Staff to harass people and intimidate them into supporting the President whether they wanted to or not if they wanted to keep their jobs!
All this leads one to think ........
that without a President in place - that the hiring of a new U of I basketball coach may take some odd turns...
perhaps a committee will be named so nobody in particular can be blamed...
and they'll probably make the PC hire and succumb to the political pressure and media pressure and hire a minority guy..
passing on qualified guys who are NOT Black...
Here's an interesting article about Ohio's John Groce...and he's mentioned in the Illinois and Nebraska context..
but remember - less than a year ago...GROCE was not even the best coach in the MAC.....that honor was Geno Ford's....
....but when Geno left for BU - that opened the door for Groce to have the better year and get all this current press......
Here's an article speculating that had Geno not "pulled the trigger"...and had he "rolled the dice" and stayed..
it might just be Geno having a repeat great year and his name mentioned in the Illinois context...hmmm...interesting... LINK
"Could Ford have been a candidate at Illinois or Nebraska had he stayed and taken the
2011-12 Golden Flashes to the NCAA Tournament? He’ll never know..."
