Good luck DS at SIUE!
I am sure it was a tough situation for you, but, you have handled it like a pro so far!
May you find much basketball success at SIUE, and, continue/finish your education for whatever lies ahead of you post college/post basketball.
Remember, if you can play, it doesn't matter where you go to college. You will be found and given an opportunity to play post college if that is what you seek...BUilding for the Future

I'm going to Limestone and he is a great kid and player but this is for the best...
If he doesn't fit Geno's style of play and doesn't get minutes then he is just a spot on the bench that isn't getting used for recruiting someone that plays Geno's style...
I hope he does great in the future!

but if he "doesn't fit Geno's style".....then can someone help me out here as to when this was finally judged to be the case???
How come Geno or someone else couldn't have known this before he played this year and used up a whole year of eligibility - or before midseason when he could have transferred and played the majority of next year somewhere else instead of sitting out until fall of 2013?
How does a kid with D-I ability end up going to a school where his style is so different than the coach's such that he never has a chance to play even tho he's a point guard on a team that has NO OTHER point guard and desperately needs one -- and how does a coach go after and "woo" a player whose style simply doesn't fit his system?
I can understand if someone was saying there were other issues - but a kid's 'style" and a coach's "style" are fairly well known, and observable commodities...

I know - but seriously - Bradley lost where have I heard that?.....ahhh...yes that's exactly what everyone including Mike D-Antoni said about Jeremy Lin - but at least he was better than what they had on the floor....
They were 8-15 with him on the bench and 13-9 since Lin has started.
Seriously - Bradley lost 21 of their final 23 games -- is it unreasonable to think the kid should have been given a chance...

That's the reality here. The 'bad fit for my style/system' is just a nice way to spin it in the media so both parties can move on amicably.

plans
I am sure when Geno came to BU he had to believe that DS could be developed into an all around productive DI player..I will not buy into the theory that he was kept to reduce the fallout no way....DS obviously did not develope into the player they needed or would have gotten the chance perfect practice makes perfect play....Jeremy Lin came in during a stretch of teams with subpar records plus Carmelo is a cancer and will not let anyone be the star but himself..Jeremy Lin did very well with his opportunity but the NBA is alot different than DI plus he had already proven himself in college...Benniator and Tornado how many practices did you attend and see DS playing well enough to deserve playing time?

All I am saying is that Geno saw the kid in practice every day... If it was apparent early on that DS did not fit into Geno's plans, wouldn't it be beneficial to not give DS any minutes thus allowing DS to redshirt? It seems to me that Geno did a disservice to DS!Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

I think we have somewhat debunked the theory or argument that NO KID will ever do well or help his team unless he does so well in practice as to deserve playing time...
There are plenty of exceptions...
One other thread gave many such examples of kids who were so deep in the playing rotation that they never saw the court yet were really good once they got the chance.
so you can believe that argument and maybe it's true much of the time - but it certainly is NOT true ALL the time...how will you ever know unless the kid gets the chance..
As I pointed out in one other thread, the only THREE times DS was on the court for more than a minute or two he actually performed well, even scored well once and never turned the ball over!
here's just one more example...
Just prior to WIU's and Jim Molinari's first post-season game ever - their game against Oregon in the CBI -- Mo had one kid clean out his locker & quit and two other kids were unavailable...
So he was forced to play really shorthanded...
so Mo was forced to use a kid named Don McAvoy - a kid who was so deep in the playing rotation that even in games where Mo needed MORE depth - McAvoy still barely saw the floor.
But - McAvoy came off the bench and scored 19 points and played great on both the defense and offensive ends of the floor and was the PLAYER of the GAME for WIU and even Mo said after the game that McAvoy's performance surprised him.

Both ways
You can not have it both ways either give him a shot in practice or give him a shot during the games which is it? Do you believe that DS was good enough to play in the Valley? If so what are you basing your oppinion on? I wish DS nothing but the best in the future i hear he is a great kid....

A local high school legend deserves better than this. Best of luck Donivine!!
