I was told today by someone very close to the Illinois program that they have settled on who will be their new coach and expect to announce it sometime in the next few days. They wouldn't say who it was, but said that people will be surprised and that it's not any of the people listed in recent media reports. Now lets see if he was telling me the truth...
He better not be or things are going to melt down in Champaign.

I talked to someone close to the program too,,,,,,,it is now Smart's to turn down and the next name has been mentioned.
To me it's hard to put Les and Stevens as examples. And please this is not a knock on Les.....but Stevens had been assistant at Butler since 01-02 season moving into top spot at the start of 07....He took Butler to the NCAA tourney 4 straight years.....he only won what 21 or 22 games this year....it was only down because they didn't get in for the 5th year in a row.... Stevens would be a good get for Illinios IMO....
I dunno, I never have liked the Horizon League so I guess I'm naturally cynical of anything coming out of it hahaha. Butler is alright.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!
I don't like the league either but Butler and Stevens have been way above the rest. We'll see hoe it goes from here
+1, Valpo fans are snots.

PJstar posting a breaking story that Shaka has turned down the Illinois job LOL. Turned down $2.5 million a year to stay at VCU. How crazy is that. Not sure how much VCU is paying him but he could probably go to Illinois, get fired in a few years and still come out with more money than if he stayed at VCU. Course it may not be about money either, could be family or just likes the low pressure of a mid major school.
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
VCU signed Shaka Smart to a new lucrative contract last March in order to keep him from being hired away by bigger schools. But then VCU tore that one up and signed him to a newer, even bigger contract on October 11 that will pay him a minimum of $1.5 million per year. Plus he has the capability of making hundreds of thousands more in incentives, and the new contract runs through 2028!
Some details of the new contract Shaka Smart signed at VCU
This is - albeit on a larger scale - what SIU did with Chris Lowery in 2007... probably won't backfire on VCU like it did on SIU...
The Salukis had just come off a run of NCAA appearances and a SWEET SIXTEEN...and Lowery was a hot commodity,
so they locked him in at$750K+ per year for several more seasons - and it was, to quote Julia Roberts - Big mistake. Big. Huge.
