  • #10 Xavier vs. #7 Notre Dame

Ha! Notre Dame just lost their game because of a lane violation on free throws that could have tied the game! Just when I thought I've seen it all, someone else finds a more creative way to lose! Xavier then iced the game on free throws. This is their sixth double digit come from behind win of the year.

They may need to do it again if they want to beat Lehigh Sunday!

Barkley all upset the refs made that call as well the intentional foul....I'm all for letting players decide the game by letting some contact go at the end but you still got rules....and the call has to be made

I don't agree with the lane violation as it had no change on the play at all. It would have been a different story had that player rebounded it and put it back in the basket. These guys watch NBA players who are in the lane before the shooter even comes close to releasing the ball and there is no calls there, but we enforce it at the Collegiate level.

I have a problem with the intentional foul. I don't argue that the foul occurred. I argue that they missed a call before that foul occurred. If you watch closely, the Xavier player setting the screen moves and cuts off the defender forcing him to grab the jersey to stay even marginally close to the player. That should have been a moving screen call and Notre Dame should have had the ball back.

Now you'll probably say that I just like Notre Dame or something so I am biased, but you would be wrong. As a Michigan fan that saw my team get upset earlier, I hate basically all things Notre Dame. But for them to lose like that in the NCAA tourney was garbage in my opinion.

I just love the fact the officials bothered to call a shot over the backboard in the final second after the first two calls. They completed the ref trifecta at the end

This is why Michigan fans are alright in my book USC, that's another matter. Complete bull how the Irish lost, thoroughly disappointed that it was a LANE VIOLATION for God's sake that lost it for them, but there's always next year right? hahaha

PS, I hope you enjoy your visit to Notre Dame Stadium this year, I ensure you it WON'T be a pleasant one!
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

there were actually three different weird or bad calls in the final seconds that hurt Notre Dame..
BTW -- I would dare to estimate that close to 100% of fouls that occur in the final 30 seconds of EVERY game are committed intentionally...
...so isn't it odd that suddenly it gets called....

ALSO -- just look at the video replay of ANY free throw attempt -- there's a lane violation committed at least 95% of the time...
every single FT someone is stepping into the lane early...

              BTW - one last question...

Xavier was 21-12, but they were 13-12 from December 18 on...
they were 6-6 in their final dozen conference games, they didn't win their tournament, they are thugs that get involved in brawls of major proportions,
their RPI is in the 40's, and they lost six times to the teams aherad of them in RPI...going 13-1 against teams above 100RPI.
They should have been sent to the NIT...

                ND

They are still better than ND!! Anything can happen on a given day!! ND should not have been in a position to let it come down to some questionable calls...They play in the Big East those teams should never loose to a mid majors....

but what happens in the NBA shouldn't have any influence how a ref calls a college game...

On the intentional foul call if the ref mssed a foul on Xavier doesn't mean he can grab a jersey...if grabbing a jersey while a guy is running in front of you still have to make the call.....I don't know that ALL the refs do but you can't blame the ones who follow the rules

I thought that the lane violation, while a little unusual was the right call. Given the circumstances, I think that the referee over officiated a little with the intentional foul call.. IMHO he should have called the foul and leave it at that.. All that being said, for bracket purposes, I am glad that Xavier won. I need all the help I can get!

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
