  • MVC teams in Postseason

The MVC is not off to a good start- 0-2 so far- perhaps showing just how mediocre the MVC was after the top 2 teams.

    Tuesday in the CBI-
Evansville lost at home to Princeton 95-86-

    Tuesday in the CIT-
Indiana State lost at home to Robert Morris 67-60-

    Wednesday night-
    In the NIT-
Northern Iowa plays at St. Josephs @ 6:15 pm
Illinois State plays at Mississippi @ 8:30 pm- this game is on ESPNU

CBI- no games involving MVC teams

In the CIT- Drake plays at home vs. North Dakota at 7:00 pm

Note- Western Illinois plays at Oregon in the CBI at 9:00 pm on HDNet.

wow - Evansville must not have seen any tape on Princeton, as they appear to have had little success defending a team
that only averages 67 points per game and 46% shooting....but proceeded to score 95 on 60% shooting...
and has only 2 players who average more than 7 ppg, yet had six guys hit that last night including a career high 31 for Davis who shot 9-11.
It was a big waste of a great game for Colt Ryan who hit 11 of 12 shots, including 4-5 from 3-pt.
Evansville's small frontcourt caught up to them as their 3 starters who are listed as forwards totalled just 19 pts/10 rebs, roughly the same as one Princeton starter (Ian Hummer) got all by himself (18/8 ).

The Indiana State loss at home to a Robert Morris team that had a 227 SOS is equally puzzling, and unfortunately confirms what I have said all year - that outside a couple good teams at the top - the rest of the entire Valley was soft and overrated.
Those who dreamed of 3 or 4 bids for the Valley simply couldn't see that the Valley (from spots #2-10) was & is not as strong as the hype.
BTW - I have already seen some hype claiming the Valley will even be stronger next year...but will it???
Creighton will be tough but they lose a key part in Young...
Wichita loses a ton (their five best players)
but even the middle of the pack teams like UE, InSU, UNI, all lose key players and don't impress me as favorites for next year...but time will tell - someone might step up,
but then I thought the same early this season and yet was totally accurate in saying unless someone steps up and has a monster year only CU & WSU looked to be strong teams.
ISU - with everyone returning - will have a lot of explaining to do if they don't make a run for the Valley next year....

I think your assessment is right on about 2-10. I also thought the league outside of CU and WSU were pretty weak. I hate to say it but ISU should be in the hunt with CU.

I don't see the Valley being stronger next season -back to a 1-bid league likely, with a couple NIT teams.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Drake finished Top 3 if the they play with more consistency, and Van Deest & Uhlenhopp come back to form.
I would imagine the middle-pack will be stacked much like this season, with quite a few teams hovering around 9-9. Hopefully BU will be one of those (???), but it would be a pleasant surprise even so.

If Doug McDermott was not on Creighton next year, who would be the favorite??? It's up in the air if you ask me.

I see these 3 MVC teams playing tonight as Top 5 teams heading into next season, as they return some solid talent for sure.

Illinois State with hot shooting, leads Mississippi 44-32 at halftime-

44points is the most ISU has scored all year in the first half of a game.

Illinois State lead the game for nearly the entire way, much of it by double digits. But Tyler Brown fouled out on a phantom foul with a little under 5 minutes to go, and with ISU leading by 10. He had scored 26 on 9-10 shooting (8-9 on threes). From there the lead dwindled, and Mississippi actually lead until ISU came back to tie at 84-84 at the end of regulation.
It is just starting overtime- the game is on ESPNU-

ISU up 88-84 with 3:46 to go. Mississippi out of timeouts already.

Bradley probably never hit 17-23 in warmups. Shooters found their way to Normal, but can't seem to make their way to Peoria.

Man, look at ISU's bracket. That section got blown the F up. A mid-level MVC team can handle a mid-level Pac-12 team, and it's a marginal Nevada/Bucknell winner on the other side.
