Gregg Marshall seems like a perfect fit for the South Carolina job. His team is loaded with seniors (Wichita State's top 5 scorers are all seniors), so this might be the perfect time to make a move. This will depend on how much Marshall wants to return to his roots in South Carolina and how much more USC can afford to pay him than Wichita State. But the SEC is clearly a bigger arena than the MVC.

Marshall was born and raised in South Carolina. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, and has a Master's degree from Richmond. After 2 seasons as an assistant coach at Randolph Macon College, he spent 1 season at Belmont Abbey in North Carolina, then was an assistant at College of Charleston (South Carolina) for the next 8 years. After 2 years as an assistant at Marshall Univ., he was named the head coach at Winthrop in 1998. He served as head coach at Winthrop for 9 years, winning the Big South Conference 6 times, and winning the conference tournament 7 times, and making the NCAA tournament 7 of the 9 seasons. This is his 5th season at Wichita State, and his first appearance in the NCAA tournament. He still has family in South Carolina.

Wichita State replaces him with up and coming WIU head coach Jim Molinari...

plus I could see him wearing a seer-sucker suit on the sidelines

I can't think of a better guy to coach a team called the Gamecocks.

Marshall to USC is good for him, but, bad for the MVC in its attempt to improve the quality of its teams and improve its national reputation as a major/relevant basketball conference.
