  • Article about Jim Molinari - interesting quotes

Basically about the bad state of college basketball in the State of Illinois..

but a few comments by Coach Mo...

"Jim Molinari knows a thing or two about winning college basketball games.

In college basketball, everything is tied to the head coach and recruiting.

???It comes down to the direction of the program and who is the man in charge,??? said recruiting analyst Joe Henricksen.
???Hiring the right staff and personnel are huge.???

In the mid-major leagues where limited budgets make it hard on building facilities and buying TV time ??”
two important elements in recruiting ??” winning comes down to intricate decisions on recruiting and player development.

???First of all, college basketball is different than any other sport,??? Molinari said. ???It doesn??™t take that many players,
good decisions or good fortune to change a program positively. It doesn??™t take that much to change it negatively. ...

With a bad injury or a bad decision or two in recruiting, the situation can change drastically."

...so there you have it - you can blame it on injuries...

Good article. Did you get a phone call when you posted the last sentence. You forgot "or a bad decision or two in recruiting". Probably just an over sight. In the mid major ranks I don't know of anyone who won't say injuries wouldn't be a major problem. Mid majors just aren't as deep in talent as the good BCS schools. I agree with you on the injury problem but I feel bad recruiting does more harm to a program then an occasional injury. Players get injured and return. A recruit that can't play at your level not only hurts you at game time but also doesn't contribute everyday in practice. Players need to be pushed in practice to make everyone better and if you've made some bad recruiting decisions, your program will pay for it for quite some time.

Yet - they don't all have injury problems...

I'm still kind of burning that WIU isn't the only Illinois team in the tourney.

As I read this article it was really kind of sad looking at all the programs either falling or rebuilding....Western and ISU would be the only two right now headed upward in my opinion...hopefully that changes next year
