    Illinois' non-conference SOS was 138, Iowa's was 306!
Illinois did not have any bad non-conference losses, Iowa lost to #206 Campbell!
I've seen a few Tweets from analysts saying that Illinois is not in the NIT because they lost 12 of 14, not because of the coaching situation. Trend apparently matters.

Yeah, Iowa making the field is a bit of a shock. 4 wins vs the RPI top 18 (2 vs Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan) probably helped, but we had some baaad losses (Campbell at home, UNI, Nebby at home, Penn St).

The clincher is the fact that Iowa is the ONLY lower seed to get a home game...Dayton is hosting an NCAA regional and their court isn't available. Plus, it is one of two games on ESPN in the first round. With one of the youngest teams in an any BCS conference, it definitely could be a boost to the program to win a game or two, but even as a fan I can agree that there were more deserving teams that Iowa.

Ya just never know what the NIT is gonna do...just look at some of their seeds as proof of that!

What a shock- all 4 #1 seeds go to BCS schools-Washington, Tennessee, Arizona, Seton Hall
Yes, please don't tell me Drexel wasn't even one of the second four teams out!

If the NCAA has a list of the top 100 teams in seeded order, then the NIT has no business shuffling teams around like this. Seed them according to how they were done by the NCAA selection committee!

To me, it looks like the NIT is running things the same way they did 20 years ago. That is rewarding teams who draw the most fans over SOS and overall record.

Nice to see two teams in from the Valley. That's one more than I thought would make it, but the Valley SOS helped. I don't recall if we ever had a .500 team from the Valley make the NIT, but we got two in this year.

Also nice to see teams like Middle Tennessee St. and Oral Roberts get to host at least one game. It's not often that the NIT gives home games to lower major teams.

My presumption is since it became affiliated with the NCAA tournament.

Since the NCAA took over the NIT, the home team assignments are strictly determined by seeding. The higher seeds are always the hosting team.
Note there is one exception- Dayton- since Dayton's arena is being used by the NCAA for the First Four tournament, Dayton will be a road team for their first game.

Oh I agree about the seeding. It's just that the NIT usually seeds even strong teams like MTS and ORU on the road for the first round. I'm glad though they got higher seeding this time around.

And the lesson for Dayton is for them to try to make the NCAA Tournament each year since they will NEVER get a first round NIT home game as long as Dayton's arena is used for the First Four NCAA Tournament games each year!

They didn't give Nevada a home game.

And yes, they give 1 home game, but hardly ever give them a 2nd.

I know Bradley turned down a bid in the 60s. Don't know if the 2 were affiliated then or not.
