  • NCAA selection show- Wichita State gets a #5 seed, Creighton a #9 seed

Ohio State gets bumped from a #1 seed- the #1 seeds go to Kentucky, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Michigan State. Interesting that 3 of those four (except MSU) lost this weekend.

Iona is a surprise to some. Not everyone had them in their bracket.
In fact, both Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm had them among their First Four Out.

          Probably bad news for Northwestern...

Another bubble team makes it- Texas as an 11 seed...worse news for Northwestern...

Creighton plays in the Midwest Regional and gets a lousy #8 seed and plays #9 seed Alabama in Greensboro, NC on Friday. Ouch! What a tough seed/matchup.

Cal makes it as an at-large team, so the Pac-12 will get 2 teams

I thought you were right on when you previously listed them as a #6. I think the 8 seed is a bit of a slap, and WSU got a tough 12 seed match-up.

Well, the award for the most deserving team not in, or the who got screwed the most award goes to Drexel. Their resume looks better than 3 or 4 of the at-large teams that did get in. But then if they did get in, probably Iona would have been out.

And again ironically, a number of midmajors are matched up against other good midmajors like Wichita State vs. VCU.

CU got a tough draw but the match ups seem pretty fair. there are some mids against each other, some mids against BCS, and BCS against BCS the first round.

The CBS guys just pointed out that there are 11 non-BCS at-large teams in the tournament, the most since 2006 (I think). So maybe we should be happy for that.

Wichita St was 19 on the S-Curve and Creighton 29. A bit low on both but not unreasonable.

The chairman of the committee was interviewed by CBS, and he emphasized that SOS was now the most important thing in making their decisions. Of course, when the midmajors figured out how to boost their RPIs, the big boys had to change the rules. Even the "eye test" that the last couple committees claimed was so important, was never mentioned this time. Now it's all about SOS, which is like the trump card they were looking for, since the midmajors can never get their SOS quite as high as the power conference guys, mainly because the big boys refuse to play the mids.
