It would be an absolute tragedy if we got rolled Round 1 again.

Bucknell, Iona, Oral Roberts, Drexel, Savannah State, Middle Tennessee, and Valparaiso are already automatically in the NIT, unless one or more of them (Drexel??) sneak into the Big Dance. That only leaves 25 spots open in the NIT, and a handful more may be lost over the next couple days (Montana down at half tonight). I'm pretty sure Jank will be screaming tragedy Sunday...

I think based on their Valley tournament run and conference strength of schedule they should get in. However, based on their non-conference strength of schedule they don't deserve it. I think the NIT committee may "split the difference" and get them a first round road game, especially considering how good they looked during the Valley run, and also considering they are the only other team in the Valley with 20 wins.

If they don't make it though, that wouldn't shock me either.

If Jank and the crew at ISU would finally schedule up, then they wouldn't have to worry about tragic circumstances. SMH

            Official poachers:

Iona (the MAAC would've sent a combined 1 team to the NCAA/NIT if Iona held serve)
Middle Tennessee (same with the Sun Belt)
            Savannah St (duh, MEAC)
            Bucknell (Lehigh beats them)

I think Oral Bob and South Dakota St were both going to the NCAA or NIT, obviously the same with the top 2 in the CAA. I think Valpo and Cleveland St are in the same boat in the Horizon.

Weber St might actually be in play. They have a big name player and like it or not, the NIT cares about that kind of stuff.

So far, I count 4 bid poachers in the NIT. Average number so far. ISU should be sweating bullets.

The tragedy began before the season started.
When will the tragedy of horrible scheduling STOP!??

ISU had one good win this year, right?

An ISU/Illinois matchup in the NIT might interest some people in the Central Illinois area.

                  Yeah, they beat U of I...oh, no they didn't - sorry...oh and U of I isn't very good. o.k. - forget it!

The 'Birds beat some decent teams with RPI's between 100 and 150, but that's about it as far as non-conf.
And then throw in that they finished 9-9 in conference. The only thing that stands out to me is their Arch Madness tournament play. That's it. And not a very good road team at all this year, and they will inevitable be playing on the road in the NIT. Not sure if that factors into the selection commitee's decision.
They don't deserve to go to the NIT IMO. SO EIEIO?

Just wait until all the Big 10 schools get invited to the NIT (UI, Iowa, Minny) and not ISU. People are going to howl. And I'll bet anything the NIT invites those 3 teams before ISU. Because they're corrupt.

and I hate to say it but those team play in a much better overall league! ISU put themselves in the position they are in because it was win the conference or Tourney or EIOU Tourney, with their horrendous scheduling. Teams in the MVC cannot count on just getting their quality wins with in conference play. Big Ten is completely different.

This year was more about the .500 Valley record, IMO. SoS definitely doesn't help but 11-7 would've been sufficient. Then again, 11-7 with a top 50 SoS could be a fringe bubble candidate.

Texas Arlington joins this list too. Mississippi Valley State, Akron, Nevada, and Stony Brook could also join it with losses over the next couple days. If Washington misses the NCAA's, they are an automatic qualifier as well. Same with Long Beach State if they lose in the next couple days.

Akron and Nevada are borderline cases though, because if it's Ohio and NMSU are the ones that take the tourneys, both are NIT at-large candidates so they may not necessarily be taking ISU's spot in the NIT.

well - with all the big schools, wealthy fan bases, etc... laying down and playing soft...
(Illinois, Northwestern, NC State, West Virginia, Seton Hall, UConn, Purdue, Iowa, Minny, Tennessee, Alabama, Colorado, UCLA, etc..)
the NIT may already be busting at the seams.....
