Downstate basketball teams ???missing out??™ compared to Chicagoland

CLOSER LOOK: Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois are among colleges that have offered a scholarship to Central??™s Trey Kellum.
Central coach Dan Ruffin said recently that Bradley also has shown interest in the 6-foot-7 forward. BU currently has no scholarships available for 2012-13.
???If something happens where a scholarship becomes available, I believe there could be some interest there,??? Ruffin said.

Thanks Da Coach. Have you or anyone here seen Kellum play?

I have only seen video, and talked to others who have seen him play.
Here is a Google list of videos-

The most common term I have heard for Trey Kellum is "raw talent". Some suggest he may be better to go to a prep school to get stronger and better, and he'd be a much better D1 prospect. He is an excellent student, a 4.0 GPA, but he needs to improve his jumpshot.

If anyone has seen him play, give us a first hand report.

I only saw him at the PND Central sectional game last year...

I remember his name...which tells me he was pretty decent

I still like Deontray Dorsey who is at Aurora JC right now and is their leading scorer and around the top 30 for the country at their level. I think he is worth a scholy

EDIT top 30 in scoring EDIT

Good athlete, good size, very efficient around the basket
Will need to expand his game to play the 3 in college
Could be a Carl Richard type player w/ some tweaks

Many would argue that Kellum was at least as talented as Jacoby Roddy of Manual who got a lot of recruiting interest and who is going on scholarship to Wright State next year.
Trey is listed at 6-7, Roddy 6-5.... and both are raw and strong and still improving with Kellum maybe having the better D-I body but Roddy more energetic.

..but Trey's scoring numbers have been slightly better and when they went head to head - there's certainly nothing to argue Kellum came out on the short end - and only because Roddy had far deeper talent as teammates did Manual pull out a narrow win last month.
But, Central won the first meeting in January when Manual was fully healthy - and Trey outscored Roddy 16-12.

And one got far more exposure playing for the Wolves.

I'll be heading up to see Trey & Peoria Central play Rock Island Alleman tonight at Bradley. Might be able to give an update on how he plays later.

Yes you will see him play but they play Sterling. Knew what you were saying. I'll be there also. Saw him play several times last year and agree with the prep school route. Alot of upside better basketball is ahead of him. We'd have to wait for help from him and don't think we have time to wait for next year. If something opens up we need to get kids who could play next year.

I could of swore Rock Island won but doesn't matter, I was going to see Central play lol.

Central just demolished the mostly white Sterling team. Trey Kellum only played a quarter or so. Almost all his shots were little bunnies and I believe he made them all. Seemed to rebound well. He didn't seem to fight thru his screens very well though. Sterling didn't have much of a motion offense so couldn't tell how well Kellum keeps up on the D (that seems familiar doesn't it?)

Maybe they can make it to State and he can put on a show like Meyers Leonard did.
