  • Doug McDermott now being listed in 1st round of mock drafts for 2012

At #29 (this was before Sunday's nationally televised game)
I’ve got guys like Scott Machado (Iona), Jeff Withey (Kansas) and Doug McDermott (Creighton) in the first round. You’ll be surprised at my first point guard off the board.

it might be tough choice but I think he stays in college...

If he is assured a first found selection and guaranteed contract, he should go. I don't see his stock rising any over the next 2 years. I think he has hit his ceiling and you DO NOT want to show NBA scouts this... A guy like Jarred Sullinger really hurt his draft stock by coming back this year.

I disagree. If he was a lottery pick, then it would be a much more difficult decision. Being projected toward the end of the first round doesn't guarantee him much. At that position he would make about $900k/year, but the 3rd and 4th years are team options. Thus IF he was taken at the end of the first round, he would make $1.8M. This year's draft class is also projected to be deep. Sullinger is still projected to be a high pick. I could see his stock rising next year. Most mock drafts don't seem to have him listed, but I imagine they see him remaining in school.

I agree- that is why I said IF HE IS ASSURED A FIRST ROUND PICK... I did not base my statement on this mock draft...

If he stays even one more year, he will be a lottery pick...nom doubt about it.

I believe he'll be better next year after a year in the weight room. He has not come close to hitting his ceiling IMO. The problem though may be that they are losing their big guy and without a true 5 he may have to play out of position.

Are you talking about the Jay's center, Gregory Echenique? He is only a Junior this year. Is he not coming back next year?

The only SR. that gets a lot of minutes is their point guard, Antoine Young. Everyone else should be back as far as I know.

Indeed. Young was the only senior on either roster of the MVC Championship game. This bodes well for both of those teams next year...

There was a stockpile of college talent that did not enter last year's draft due to the lockout; they will enter this year. In my opinion, McDermott would be foolish to come out this year. The MVC will be weaker next year and his dad will continue to make sure he is showcased. He'll go much higher next year, possibly lottery.

I thought he was a Senior. WOW that bodes real well then for CU. Losing Antoine Young though will be hard to make up but otherwise they should be better. I do expect Doug to be better next year. He seems to work out pretty hard and another year of growing into his body will really make a difference. Imagine what POB would have been had he waited a year or two? There are plenty of players in the league who went into the NBA without the man strength and got crushed. The NBA is a lot different then NCAA basketball. We are really talking MEN to boys here.
