Also, some kids want PT, while some want B1G Championships, Final Four appearances, and a Michigan degree. Pretty tough to pass up a full ride to one of the best universities in the country...

Judging from the massive transfer list every year, I'd say most want playing time. It seems the other reasons are really more like excuses that come later, when the playing time doesn't happen.
I never heard of a recruit picking a school initially because they want to sit on the bench and cheer their teammates on to a championship.

Seems to me Max is doing just fine. Got to go to the final four last year, getting a degree at one of the top public universities in the country. Not saying he doesn't want more PT, but there is something to be said for understanding one's role and being content with it. Usually if a player is redshirting for a non-injury reason it is understand that the player is in-line for limited PT in the short term.

I have no problem with Nate Wells and it is a very similar situation. Some players just don't develop like both parties hope, doesn't mean someone has done something wrong.

That is what I figured... however, I find it pretty hard to believe you would recruit anyone for their family money...especially when Michigan has the 2nd largest endowment in the nation among public universities and 7th overall.

That is impressive, however, the athletic departments do not get to touch the university's endowment.
Every Athletic Department, no matter how well funded, always wants more money to pay for updating facilities, recruiting budgets, etc.

I don't disagree with your premise, but I don't think those articles say the programs wanted money. In the USC case I believe it was a package deal for another player, and I think the gist of the UCLA deal is to say that the rapper's sons are on the team to entice others to want to be on the team, assuming their dads would be around some. Maybe I am reading it wrong.

I do not disagree with your premise that Weber may have been pressured to offer him because of his family status with the U of I, but my argument is within your below quote that infers Michigan (or any other school not named Illinois) offered him because of this family status, which is laughable, IMO.
