  • Michigan's Beilein "Strong" on Max B

John Beilein's 02/29/2012 press conference in the GoBlueTV section includes talk about Max Bielfeldt. Discussion starts about 7 minutes 44 seconds into the video.

Another story about Max Bielfeldt....the main topic is how Michigan has been robbing players from other states...
SYF Players, the same Indiana AAU power that sent Robbie Hummel and E'Twaun Moore to Purdue, is sending three players to Michigan in the 2012-13 class.

"Bielfeldt entered his junior year playing with close-to-home Peoria Irish in
Illinois, receiving mid-major recruiting attention. One high school game
against Gary (Ind.) Lew Wallace on Martin Luther King Day in 2010 changed
    everything.

His team lost. A man approached him after.

"I'm like, 'Who the hell is this dude?'" Bielfeldt said. "He's talking to me like, 'I
want you on my AAU team.' I'm like this nutcase is in Gary, Indiana, probably
some podunk team that was nothing big.

"But I looked into it and kept in contact with him. Then I'm like, 'He's actually
a pretty legit guy and knows what he's doing.'"

Weeks later, Bielfeldt started playing for SYF, teaming with another player
Brumm discovered a few years earlier.

Brumm's teams practiced in the heart of the Northwest Indiana area known
as "The Region" at a place known as "The Courts" in Merrillville, Ind. While a
gaggle of high school players, including Robbie Hummel and E'Twaun Moore,
worked with Brumm, an eighth-grader played with his friends nearby.

Michigan's interest led to offers from both the Wolverines and Illinois, where
the athletic administration building is named after Bielfeldt's family. Bielfeldt
went to Illini games his whole life. He still chose Michigan, in March 2011."

      nice article on Max Bielfeldt
John Beilein elected to sit Bielfeldt for the season to improve the health of his knees, and remains excited about the power forward's future.

Max will battle for playing time against several other big guys on the roster - Jordan Morgan, Mitch McGary, Blake McLimans..

but one big guy, Jon Horford, has a knee injury that might keep him out a while and help Max's chances on PT
Wolverines forward Jon Horford is hurt, but is not expected to miss significant time as Michigan prepares to open the 2012-13 season.

Belein's comments are coach-speak for: "won't play much".

              Max gets nice writeup
              note "Key Play" number 3
              1. Michigan begins game with 8-0 run Michigan pounced on Cleveland State right from the opening tip, and never let up. The Wolverines scored the first eight points of the game in remarkably easy fashion. They mixed up the pace — two buckets came off of fast breaks, two off of well-run half-court sets. The […]

                Great kid

Max won't be in the rotation for Michigan this year unless injuries play a part. Never should of went there If he wanted to play but some guys are happy sitting on the bench and just being a part of a team. I think if you are any kind of a competitor it's just not acceptable. He will be recruited over every year which is sad cause he is a great kid.

                    Think he is happy

Think he is happy at Michigan. May be like Milo's just happy to be on team and to graduate with the Michigan degree.

Michigan just won the Preseason NIT...they go to 5-0...and Max appears to be little more than a deep bench player...
four of their games were pretty wide margins that extended all the way up to the 40-pt blowouts of IUPUI & Slippery Rock...and still Max gets only a few minutes and has not scored yet.

I agree and I'm betting he would be starting for us this year. On the flip side he maybe more then a bench player by his senior year. I'm sure his parents are guiding him to have a productive post basketball career.

Max Bielfeldt has been struggling with an ankle sprain...he played only 4 minutes in a win over Penn State 2/17 and has not played since...
I know Max is only a freshman - but he's oging to be recruited over time and again and Mitch McGary will be playing heavy minutes ahead of him...
he has only logged 100 minutes all year - less than ISU's Zeke Upshaw & Jordan Threloff and only a little more than BU's Nate Wells.

Looks like Beilein was less than honest - he clearly thinks very little of Max Bielfeldt...
Max is now a 3rd year RSSo, and still barely sees the court - with lots of 1st & 2nd year players playing way ahead of him...

Max has only played in 4 of their 6 games, although he did get 5 minutes yesterday and was 0-2 and scoreless, and on the season, even tho a fair number of their opponents have been horrible softies and patsies, Max has played only a total of 20 minutes and is 2-9 with 5 total points scored.
Maybe this is all OK with him but if he actually wants some playing time - he needs to give it some thought....

hmmmm.. so your saying you KNOW Beilein made some promises to Max about playing time? Or am I inferring incorrectly? I'd love to hear those if so...

Also, some kids want PT, while some want B1G Championships, Final Four appearances, and a Michigan degree. Pretty tough to pass up a full ride to one of the best universities in the country...
