  • New Illinois AD Mike Thomas pulls trigger and fires another coach

New Illinois AD isn't afraid to fire coaches- he fired Ron Zook, and now he's fired his second high profile coach- Jolette Law, the head coach of the Illinois women's basketball team-

Let's see ...the new Illinois AD Mike Thomas is a Colorado State grad (grad-school) and a WIU grad (undergrad)
who just came from his prior spot at Cincinnati -
that means the frontrunners to replace Weber are...
Mick Cronin, Tim Miles, and of course Jim Molinari...

No disrespect, but Mo doesn't stand a chance.

I think he was joking about hiring coaches from his former school. Not saying he really was going to Illinois.

Mick Cronin wouldn't be a bad candidate.

I think Cronin is a good coach and a good recruiter, but he has only had 1 NCAA appearance and never finished higher than a 7th seed in his 6 seasons at Cincinnati.
Cincinnati is currently 21-9, 11-6 in the Big East, but with an RPI of 68 which is only the 10th best RPI in the Big East. Their SOS is the 15th out of 16 in the Big East, but they should make the NCAA this year.

Yeah... I don't know if he's "the guy", but someone worth talking to.

I know a lot of people don't like Gregg Marshall, but that's a direction I wouldn't mind seeing them go.

guys - it was a tongue-in-cheek remark about the new AD wanting to bring in his own guys from where he just came
