The bottom line is that the coaching staff must believe that DS could not help this season. That is all we know.

The coaches didn't watch practice, get blown away by DS (or any player), and then say, "I'm not going to play him even though he's obviously great"

For whatever reason, DS is not what the coaching staff wanted this season.

I have never heard of any coach not playing a guy, that he thought would help or be an improvement, for no good reason. The coaching staff must be pretty sure DS either wasn't ready or wasn't the right piece for this team.

In monday's final radio show, Geno mentioned the lack of competition in practice and how the 1st team always killed the 2nd team.
Towards the end of the season, Walt asked to play on the 2nd team, so he practiced against the better group. With Walt, the 2nd team won 4 of the next 5.
Now I don't know who on the 2nd team was swapped for Walt, but I think it points out that Walt is the best PG on the team.

Feel free to do whatever you want. You can hold whatever opinion you want, you can express it in any way you see fit.

Doesn't change the the reality of the situation here. The coaching staff has to play the kids that they feel give them the best chance to be successful. If they felt DS was equipped to help the team in some way, he would have played. He wasn't, so he didn't.

If you feel the staff is wrong in the way they handled the distribution of playing time, go ahead and express that. The facts aren't on your side here, but that certainly doesn't mean you aren't allowed to hold an opinion contrary to them.

Yes the staff has to do some things for the best chance for success. But, at what point during the Drake home game does the staff take the players aside and tell them to not shoot three's and work for a quality shot? Remember we were 0-20 from the three for that game. --me thinks Drake would have been a decent opportunity for someone like Milos to get some pt--

Whether I have seen him play or you have seen him play is absolutely meaningless. We both have, but so what?

Geno and his staff have watched him play for hundreds and hundreds of hours in practice this year...He has shown in those hundreds of hours of scrimmages, drills, etc., that he isn't ready to play, isn't good enough to play, whatever the case may be. Bottom line, he didn't earn playing time...enough said. I'll just go ahead and trust this assessment to a staff of D-I basketball coaches over some random fan's opinion on an internet message board.

If DS was worthy enough to receive a basketball scholarship, IMO he should have been worthy enough to play more in the lopsided games this season. In tight games I agree, I'll trust Geno.

there's clearly a difference between calling someone wrong...
vs. simply expressing that I would have liked to see how DS did and would have liked to see him get more playing time...

So a coach should reward bad practices with playing time just because the kid might be one of those rare exceptions? He can't guard anyone in practice but magically might be able to in a game?

Doesn't that go against what all coaches talk about when they talk about the importance of practice?

Im not buying that at this level. If a guy shows he can't play in a practice he isn't going to magically turn it on versus better competition in games.

For every 1 of your guys that you claim is a terrible practice player but does "just fine" when they are thrown into games, there are probably 10,000 players that are terrible practice players and terrible players in games.

I'm gonna assume that our coaching staff knows how to distinguish between the two.

This doesn't bode well for preparing our 1st team...or 2nd team guys for actual games. This definitely needs to change before next season.
If our 1st team kills the 2nd team and other teams kill our 1st team...yikes!!!

For next season at this point, it could be:

TP, WE, WL, DSE, SS
NW, JP, KB, JE, JC

Seems that at least the 2nd team could hold their own.
Let's hope we get a couple more solid recruits in to make it even more competitive.

When your players don't have diversified skills it makes creating "diversified scoring opportunities" kind of tough. At least that's how I see it.
