  • Let the recruiting begin

Tomorrow hopefully our whole staff will be in a gym watching kids who can come in and help us. Lord knows we need help. The two coming in will not get us over the hill next year.Nice to have WE and Wells though . that will make us better inside and hopefully put JP and Jake deep on the bench

Do you really believe that? A freshman and a guy with a 2nd knee injury. Yes we are desperate for any sign that we could be better! Next year will be more of the same. I just do not see us being able to score.

A person can hope can't he? We won't be any better if we can't bring two or three more people in. That's for sure.

I believe we will be a much more balanced team next season and will be better. We don't need to add any more players either. I'm tired of people saying if we don't add 2 or 3 more players we won't be better. How do you expect to add these players? You're rooting for players to leave and basically admitting that they are failures here after 1 bad year.

Personally, I hope that everyone sticks around, works their butts off, and improve enough to help contribute to some wins; especially if they were freshman this last year like DS or DH. Give them at least one more year to prove their worth. We gave these players a scholarship, so we obviously thought highly of them. They did not pan out in year 1, but that doesn't mean that by the time they are juniors or seniors, they can't be solid contributors.

I understand it has been YEARS since every eligible player returned to the Braves, and next will be no different with CW more than likely leaving. That being said, I'm not rooting for these players to leave or go elsewhere. If they do make that decision, that is there decision and we will move on from there, but I'm just hoping these current players just work hard in the offseason, rather than bringing in new people who have to learn a new system.

Gonna take some patience folks. The roster needs a pretty signifcant overhaul and aome guys who can score it some. Just not enough MVC level players on the roster. All nice kids im sure but not good enough at basketball.

Well time to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Pretty much how I feel. I wish every single player the best no matter what.

I am also hopeful that a number of players work hard and improve.
But without any turnover I am doubtful that we will improve much, because our greatest problem is that we are only practicing against us. This summer, Creighton will also be working hard to improve....and that hard work will pay greater dividends because Creighton will be playing against ... Creighton.

                  +1

Though the addition of Bell and Pickett and return of Egolf will be a boost in competition level in practice I think (though I'm not sure how hard WE can go this off-season)

I think this is asking a lot from Wells. This isn't a knock on Wells. Just the realization that he is a project and anything we get from him next year should be looked at as a bonus.

I want Brzoja, Buovac, and a big man more than anyone who was riding the pine this year. If the few guys who rode the bench most of the year couldn't get in with this disaster of a season, it's time to reshuffle and redeal. That may seem pretty harsh but sometimes the truth hurts.

I certainly don't expect project Wells to contribute to putting JP "deep on the bench" either. Whatever he can provide next season and add to this team is indeed a bonus.

As for recruiting......I believe there are 5 players on this team that Geno has recruited.....DSE, JP, JC, SS, and DH.

DSE should be expected to be a team leader next season as one of just 2 returning players that shoots 34% or better from 3-point range and the top returning free throw shooter. He is also just one of two returning players with more assists than turnovers.

JP will hopefully come into his 3rd season playing for Bradley facing better competition in practice and improve on both offense and defense. He has the body to play at this level and needs to learn how to use it.

JC played well for a freshman and I look forward to watching him improve and become a bigger part of this team in the future.

SS has to be the biggest disappointment for me. I've heard people talking about what a special player he will be and I hope they're right, but I have been unimpressed to this point. His defensive numbers (blocks and steals) aren't bad, but he contributes very little offensively.....other than turnvovers.

                        DH ?????????

I understand the thoughts on getting rid of players that aren't contributing, but what if they want to stay? Are people really saying we should "run off" some players after just one season?

some players may not be contributing but they have had no opportunity
some may not be contributing despite plenty opportunities...
Regardless - we need to be carefull and help those who want to leave find the right place - and that's the way it's done right........

I find silly catch phrases from the media like... "the long nightmare is over" about as well informed as those that the very same people said last spring like...
"we will immediately be better" and "how can we be any worse - after all we finished 10th" (which was incorrect - we tied for 9th), and "we will definitely be more competetive"..

I agree, but what if they want to remain at Bradley......is their scholarship pulled anyway because of not contributing?
