  • Trouble brewing for

A top 2012 Rivals recruit, Shabazz Muhammad and his advisors Ken Kavanagh and Benjamin Lincoln, are being investigated. The NCAA has taken done something a little unusual. They have let it be know that Muhammad may have received illegal benefits that include improper payments. Schools can recruit him at their own risk.

    One of the quotes.......

"This is quite an unusual situation where the NCAA has preemptively warned schools about the eligibility of a recruit," he said. "The fact that they have done that leads me to believe that the schools recruiting him will continue to recruit him because they have faith that there won't be retroactive punishment in this situation. From the looks of it, the NCAA is being up front with this situation. Obviously, there could be developments where the NCAA comes down with a harder line and schools begin to backtrack."

On a side note.....what do you bet that this "advisor," Benjamin Lincoln has middle name of Grant or Jackson?

BTW -- all this really means is that the kid's options have been narrowed and now he has to go to $Kentucky

This kind of story just shows how creative people can get to try to funnel money to a recruit.

Shabazz Muhammad is ranked by many as the #1 ranked player in the class of 2012, and he has not yet committed. That means there is a fierce competetion to land the kid, involving the usual top D1 schools, as well as a bevy of agents and advisors.

He plays for a summer AAU program named Dream Vision, which is heavily sponsored by Adidas.

But Shabazz Muhammad's sister is a pro tennis player who is currently ranked 386th in the world. Usually, the pro tennis players below the top 100 or so do not get big endorsement contracts, however, Asia Muhammad does have a big shoe contract with....Adidas. What a coincidence!
Somehow I doubt Asia Muhammad would be getting big bucks from Adidas or any other tennis shoe company if she didn't have a brother who was a future pro basketball star.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is Nevada's most trusted source for local news, Las Vegas sports, business news, gaming news, entertainment news and more.

Most people expect Muhammad to be a one-and-done player at the college level, but this sleazy relationship he and his family have with these agents and with Adidas may make him ineligible next year. He may have to spend a year in Europe or elsewhere.

but each of the past few years the top recruits.... John Wall, Josh Selby, and others did exactly the same thing and were suspended a few games max - or in John Wall's case, since it was Kentucky, it was just ONE game -
