  • Recruiting?

In reality we are in the dark about recruiting as in the previous regime but one thing is certain whatever recruit we get they have a chance at getting decent playing time. What I do want to know is why are we not getting the players we really want and perhaps should be at our level? There should be no mention of our facilities being bad, we hired a coach that has won in the past and we have some of the most passionate fans in all of college basketball. So what gives folks? What's your opinion? Build it and they will come was promised! I'd have to suspect something is getting in the way of signing the better recruits.

I'd have to suspect you are wrong. Nothing is getting in the way of landing quality recruits. We had two scholarships to give and have signed one of the better juco PF's and, quite possibly, the best available PG in the state of Illinois. What more do you want? I'm sure if any additional scholarships become available we'll see similar quality recruits signing as well.

I don't know all the players we go after, but I would think Coty Clake would be recruit 1 and Pickett 1A. I think Bell had to be one of our top targets.

I am sure guys like J Parker or Austin would be at the top of our list but I don't count them as misses. They are such longshots they don't count to me.

I know we looked at a couple JUCO's out west that were highly thought of but it seemed like we stopped recruiting them for some reason.

I think we are doing OK on our recruiting. We need to hit on someone that develops like Anthony Parker did. I think to get recruits that are much higher ranked than Pickett we will have to get our program to a level like Wichita or Creighton.

It's my guess there will be 2 to 3, and possibly more additional recruits this spring, and they will be high quality kids who will contribute immediately. There have been recruits at each of the last couple games, and others who have visited the campus and facilities when there wasn't a game to attend. In some cases, the coaches are open about the recruits we are pursuing, but for now they are preferring to be candid and secretive until the scholarship situation is resolved.

I agree with you .I think we are going to get much better kids in the future. I heard one recruiting source say the PG we are getting, was better then the PG from Crete Monee the Illini signed. I guess time will tell but in order for next year to be better some changes need to happen

If you are saying Wells as the starter, I would be shocked. He seems to have a nice touch, and shows potential. I just don't see him as a starter with his first year of play.

There will be at least 1 more big man in the mix that Geno is working on getting.

I'm not to worried about recruiting at this point. Maybe I will be before next fall but not right now. We have two very good players coming in in Pickett and Bell, and I expect to see a few more new players before next fall. There is a lot of playing time to be had for incoming players at this point. We have the facilities. They will come.

Let me also mention one factor related to recruiting. There have been some who have said that Bradley is not at any disadvantage academically with recruiting. But Geno may be learning what Jim Les and Jim Molinari also found out, that Bradley does have this disadvantage.
Bradley does not have a Physical Education curriculum. Most state schools, and some private schools do. Especially with recruiting junior college kids, some of the better kids have a number of their credit hours in their junior college's physical education curriculum since it is sometimes easier to maintain passing grades in PE (no offense to you PE majors). Since those credits are not accepted at Bradley, by the time those credits are subtracted from their total credits, they do not have enough credits to be admitted at Bradley. I know of one highly rated juco kid that Jim Les got a verbal commitment from a couple years ago, but when his transcript was examined, he was not admissable to Bradley. He ended up at South Alabama.

It is surprising that Bradley still doesn't have PE. At least from the outside it seems to be an easy program to start up. There's always more to getting it started, and I would imagine that accreditation would be the biggest issue.

BU staying quiet on recruiting without available scholarships is the right move IMO. While there are probably players that aren't returning (by choice or not), it doesn't serve any purpose to make it public during the season.

lack of a PE major certainly hurts..

would be interested to see how whether say the top mid private institutions have it or not.

I can tell you if my son wanted a PE major, there are a lot cheaper ways to get it than BU

Most PE majors are football players at BCS schools. It is a major encouraged by some football programs because the coaches can be around their kids all the time and make sure they stay eligible and graduate. I would guess most non-football schools don't have a PE curriculum, but some do.
I guess that might be an advantage for those schools that have D1 football like SIU, ISU, and MSU.

I wonder if Stanford, Duke or NW have PE majors. If PE is the only draw back we have, I hope that does not become a focal point for blame.

There are other standards that are considered for admitting student athletes that vary a lot from school to school. I won't mention specific instances, but I know of a very good point guard that our current coaches wanted, but were not able to get admitted.
