Reynolds:UNI drops BU to 7-23...
Another good outing by Walter 22 pts.....zero pts for JP again.....we really need something from the post to get a W', looking forward to Nate and Will for some help there next season and I also like SS down in the post better than starting out from the 3 pt arc!

I thought we played fairly well overall. If we had played as well consistently all year we would have won half the games we lost. But the lack of size and inside scoring/rebounding hurt us again.
That deficiency needs to be fixed with recruiting, and Tyshon Pickett (6'6") will help, but we need that 6'10" inside player that Geno is looking for...

I think the first half 3-pt shooting shows we are not consistently a "bad shooting team" - I think it is a confidence issue....
I felt there were things that led early to our shooters being confident and it paid off......
BUT -- once our guys took a couple really bad, ill-advised attempts and then missed big time - you could literally see the confidence disappear
Jalen especially - took a couple when he was way off balance and there was plenty of time to work for a better shot...Walt a couple times, too.
WE MUST WORK FOR GOOD SHOTS AND NOT LAUNCH TERRIBLE ONES!
We also played reasonable defense in the paint (after the first few minutes of lapses) as
we were NOT beaten in "Points in the Paint" - which is an oddity this season.
BUT - The loss of confidence also ruined the night for Jordan Prosser...
early on - with 38 minutes and 45 seconds remaining -- when Seth Tuttle took a short shot - you cold just see JP just assuming the shot was going in and so he just stood waiting for the ball to drop thru the net so he could inbounds it...
but the shot came off the rim and Tuttle easily went right around JP for the offensive rebound and putback.....
Then - JP was yanked on the spot and "lectured" on the sidelines...
From that point on JP's confidence and desire to compete just wasn't there....
Does anyone think Shayok clearly gives us more and has more value when he's playing within 10 feet of the hoop?
He's very active around the basket and can hit the short shot, but we all know his outside shooting (20% from 3pt) and tendency to travel & turn the ball over are problems when he's playing away from the hoop.
WE NEED TO KEEP HIM CLOSER TO THE BUCKET
One more time - our PG has just 1 asst in 25 minutes, while two starters do not score....
one more thing - each half we subbed out almost half the starters within the first 75 seconds....I suppose it can work but if you're in and out in only a minute then can this be good for the players' confidence?
- Seth Tuttle had 9 pts, 11 rebs including 5 offensive rebounds and some 2nd chance points.
Here's the play by play log - LINK just check for yourself...
-In the first couple minutes he and their other BIG MAN Koch get FIVE shot attempts, 2 baskets, 4 pts, 3 rebs and a FT shot (all in under 1.5 minutes!!!)
-then AT enters the game and plays the NEXT 5:42...during which Koch & Tuttle combine
for a GRAND TOTAL of zero shots, zero points, and just ONE rebound
AT plays much of the rest of the 1st half and presto - Tuttle does NOT make another basket the entire 1st half - only 2 FTs
I think AT clearly defends the paint better than anyone we have and he's also at least capable of getting some putbacks
-in the 2nd half, what hurt most was the 6-13 shooting we allowed from 3-pt range - and they did NOT beat us with points in the paint.
This was one of the few games this year where our opponents did NOT beat us with points in the paint - so I am somewhat encouraged and I think AT played a big part in that.
Walt continues to play very well as a scorer off the bench - maybe consider using him as a 2-guard off the bench and start JP, AT, DSE, then decide between the rest for who plays point guard -- I think most people know who I'd like to see but I won't bore you...

Shayok missed his first 4 shots in the second half all in the paint!! I really think this kid has a lot of talent but has a long way to go!! He needs to work on his BBall IQ as far as team work and shot slection... He will get better and be productive, as far as when that is will be up to him and how hard he works at it...
