There's no hypocrisy - Iowa lifted this policy about 2 years after the initial brouhaha, several years ago. Crazy as it may sound, they realized it was a terrible stance and backed off, rather than take a stand against something that few people felt strongly about. Remember, it was only a year ago they came to Peoria to play the BU women's hoops team.

I don' think they "lifted their policy" but have dropped opposition where the schools have gotten tacit "OK" from someone representing the tribe involved...

but first - Iowa never scheduled Bradley basketball - their policy only involves scheduled games against opponents who they perceive tohave native American games - the game with Bradley was a tournament matchup that they did not schedule.

and multiple recent stories detail how Iowa won't play teams with Indian names - their policy is NOT changed but they have backed off if the schools involved get some form of tribal permission...

      here's one...
" The University of Iowa has also decided not to invite North Dakota to an April track meet because of its use of the Fighting Sioux name."
A disagreement over the North Dakota Fighting Sioux nickname has led to a web of legislation and litigation involving the university, Legislature, NCAA, secretary of state, and even a group of Native American students.

..and here's one from just a week ago-
"Our (Iowa's) policy is that we won’t schedule a competition against a school
using a Native American mascot unless it’s been approved by the NCAA,” said
Mark Abbott, Iowa’s associate athletics director for legal affairs who primarily
handles football scheduling. “There was a time when Central Michigan was
not on our approved list. But it has been approved by the NCAA, and now it’s
      acceptable to our policy.”

From the late 1990s through 2005, Iowa could not have played Central Michigan in football unless the schools met in …

First of all, they did lift their policy of unequivocally NOT scheduling teams with tribal names, and changed it focus on schools who are not sanctioned.

Secondly, I was at the Bradley-Iowa game last year. Iowa absolutely did schedule the game voluntarily and it was definitely not a part of a tournament.

You may be confusing this with the game where Iowa played Bradley in South Padre in 2007...and even in that case, Bradley was a part of the field BEFORE Iowa, meaning Iowa knowingly joined the tournament with the knowledge they would have a 67% chance of playing BU.

You are correct PTown. I was with an Iowa coach this past weekend and brought up this subject. He confirmed that Iowa did indeed lift their policy. He also agreed it was the right thing to do.
