maybe we should just cancel the Thursday play-in round...as it's pretty rare
that any of those Thursday teams ever really advance very far, right??

But - here are the trivia questons...in the 35 years there's been an MVC Tourney...

-Has any MVC seeded lower than 6th ever won the MVC Tournament?
Answer -- no, in fact no seed lower than 5th has ever won..and only twice has
a seed even lower than 3rd won (#4 Creighton in 2000 and #5 InSU in 2001)

-Has any team that came out of the first round (play-in round) ever even won a single quarterfinal round game?
In other words - has any "Thursday team" ever won on Friday?? (taking into account the play-in round used to be Fridays)?
...Answer - yup, but ONLY ONCE ever - in 1998 the #7 seed Bradley advanced by beating #10 Drake then beat #2 Creighton

-Then has any play-in team in any conference ever had much success?
Answer - of course, lots of times, and most recently last year when UConn had to win five games to win the Big East Tourney then went on to win SIX MORE in the NCAA Tournament to claim the title!

-Has any player EVER in MVC Tournament play - ever scored over 40 points in a tournament game?
..Answer - yes, Hersey Hawkins scored 41 on March 5, 1988 vs. Indiana State

-When was the last time any player scored over 30 points in an MVC Tournament game?
    ...Answer - Sam Maniscalco - 31 points March 5, 2010 vs. Creighton

I was there for all those games, I do believe the 9th and 10 th place teams should not be in the tour; gives too much advantage to the 1 and 2 seeds.

The way the MVC tourney is set up you are actually better off being the #10 seed than the #8 or #9 seed. The winner of 8 vs 9 has to play at noon on Friday against the #1 seed, while the winner of 7 vs 10 does not play until 6pm on Friday against the #2 seed. So, I would much rather be #10 than #9 if I wanted any chance at making a run at the Arch.
