  • Illinois getting clobbered by Nebraska

Ilinois' bubble is about to burst. They are playing at Nebraska (the game is on the Big Ten network) and Nebraska is murdering the Illini. The score is currently 59-31 with 11 minutes left in the game-

Oh boy! Weber has lost this team. What a disappointing end to his tenure at Illinois!

Really unbelievable how bad these guys are playing. they don't act like they care at all.

I'm guessing if they lose the rest of the games they let him go before the BT tourney

This makes the Fanatic very happy
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Most of the national pundits believe Weber is a natural fit for a mid-major team. Lots of motion offense, cutting screens, and throwing the ball outside to open three point shooters. Unfortunately this type of offense does not always win games in a BCS conference, and it is the wrong type of offense for a team full of 4 star recruits.

Funny how many believe that Geno should employ this type offense until he gets his recruits here while Weber should be the one employing the "run and gun, slash to the basket" type of offense that Geno started the year off with!

Now would Weber return Bradley to the heights seen in the past? No reason to believe he wouldn't, but that's not an issue now since that ain't going to happen!

              weber may get another yr

There is no way Illinois can afford to pay off Zook and Weber in the same year...that may buy him 1 more year...I am hearing Tommy Amaker who would consider moving to the midwest..i heard that from his former assistant who i know..and also Robert Smith from Simeon..but I find that hard to believe unless he could guarantee them getting chicago public league kids but more importantly Jabari Parker.

                You're getting bad information Gerry.

Illinois will pay for Bruce Weber not to coach at Illinois next year, and there isn't a chance in hades that Robert Smith will be the head coach.

I do not know the exact wording, but didn't the NCAA pass guidelines a year or two back, preventing a coaching hiring in relation to a recruit. Something like a coach cannot be hired if he was a coach/handler of a recruit for x amount of years? Thus, making it impossible for Smith to be hired, and still trying to bring in Parker? Seemed like it happened after the Beasley/Kansas State deal...

I think the rule was intended to prevent a head coach from hiring a parent or coach of a recruit just to get the recruit. I don't know if the rule would prevent Illinois from hiring a head coach like Smith.

I know there is no official statistic on this, but Sam Maniscalco might set some sort of record. I cannot recall a player playing a significant role on two different teams where the coach was fired in two consecutive years?

What? I seriously doubt that is a record. And you are wrong about your whole premise- is was primarily because Sam was injured and couldn't play that gave reason for Jim Les to be fired. Sam had a great career at Bradley. And if Bruce Weber gets fired, which is speculative at this point, it certainly isn't going to be because of Sam Maniscalco. It will be because of his poor recruiting, the fact that his players never developed or left early, and for not winning enough games.

Easy killer, I didn't say maniscalco got them both fired. I'm saying it is rare enough for a guy to be eligible two years in a row for different teams. When you add in the odds of both coaches being fired, it makes it even longer odds.

SIU has an asst. coach from Wyoming that brought their best player with him and will be elgible next season.

definitely not poor recruiting..... just poor results
