Great win for Creighton and the Valley as they keep their spot in the NCAA Tournament for the time being. They will have to shoot that well to overcome their bad defense aginst the teams they will face in the NCAA Tournament and the Valley tournament.

Hey, remember when I argued Lowery was doing a good coaching job a few games back?

Yeah, I'm an *****. SIU is in the slot they probably belong now.

IlSU opens a door that can allow MSU to finally get a death grip on 3rd place.

Heh, apparently that word is censored

seems like the ISU folks are griping about the refs, but this morning I happened to bump into one of the ISU assistants and chatted a bit about the game last night.
He refuted the idea that the refs were at fault - and instead acknowledged that they simply do not match up well nor have anyone to guard Odum.
They tried several players but Odum is too quick for the big men to handle, many of the shooting guards (and ISU has an overload of them) are simply not skilled nor used to guarding a ball-handler, and their PG(s) are too small to guard Odum and thus Odum had the best game of his career and ISU had to resort to fouling him.
This despite the fact that Odum is not a very good outside shooter and often will turn down wide open outside opportunities.
ISU played well enough to win this one had they contained Odum since nobody else on the Sycs had much more than a decent game.
If you look at shooting pct (ISU 27-50-50% vs. InSU 24-51-47%) and 3-pt pct (46% vs. 39%) the Redbirds actually played pretty well on the road for a change.
The difference was their inability to match up and contain Odum.

ISU is now at 8-8, and their 2 Valley games remaining are at Bradley and vs. Wichita - and losing them both would put them in jeopardy of having to play on Thursday in the MVC Tourney - and possibly even having to play Bradley on Thursday in St. Louis.

Well--I have never heard the ISU people I know and work with blame the refs They have blamed weak non-conference scheduling and lack of senior leadership etc though. And I wouldn't think Vershaw (or any of their coaches blame the officials either)?? Now--IF we can somehow finally beat ISU red next Saturday and knock them into Thursday--I for one would be estatic for a day--but that said--I would still not be one of the BU fans (like you) who believes that would make our season a very successful one
              Bradley football--undefeated again this year

then you must not have listened to Kurt Pegler and Bob Morris doing the broadcast or checked what their fans are saying...as every other comment alluded to the poor officiating

Griping or complaining about the refs is different them BLAMING them for the loss. Don't think anyone did that. The refs were bad- but it did not cost us the win...well it almost did when Vern Harris (OMG he is awful) called a phantom foul with 1.3 seconds left and a tie game. But Odom missed both FT's (justice). Blaming the refs on a loss and complaining about there are two completely different arguments.

I watched the game, and there may have been some questionable calls. But the difference in the number of fouls and free throws shot was due to one factor- the style of play of INSU vs. ILSU. Jake Odum was aggressive in driving to the basket and Illinois State's smaller guards did not defend well, while Illinois State was content to take perimeter shots and fade-aways. Note that 3 of Indiana State's starters, Carl Richard, Jake Odum, and Jordan Printy, all played nearly 40 minutes and all had zero fouls.

Always thought it would be interesting to do a study of 'close' calls.. and how fan bias affects people's perceptions of the same event.

Show a video of a play to backers of both teams and get their reactions to a call/non call...did they think it was a correct call..or their degree of certainty the call was correct?

Then, show the video of the same play by people who have no interest in either team/conference, and, no idea of the score at the time or where the game was being played.... did they think it was correct call..or their degree of certainty the call was correct?

Variability could be added by allowing participants to know where the game was played, score at the time of the call....

Any graduate students looking for a research project idea to help with their Masters Degree in statistics, media, or recreation/sports administration
