    Announcement to come later today-
The Mountain West and Conference USA will announce a newly named conference in what is being termed a new association, not a merger of the remaining existing members.

I imagine this is the death of the MWC/MVC challenge. Ring up the CAA!

It'll be interesting if football money translates into basketball success. This move is obviously football-motivated, but this may allow the "big six" conferences to become the "big seven" in basketball if profits end up being good.

i wish we would get out of the bracket busters and do a head to head during those two days with the A-10

The MVC is fine...unless the membership decides it wants to play football at a different level. Then things change.

On another note, this was called in December: http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread...373#post245373

And that's the problem. I don't just want to be a fine team in a fine conference. I would prefer to be great.

                How would you define great?

I don't understand why folks think that the MVC is a bad place to be.

It is an excellent basketball league with great tradition, fan support, quality of play, geographic proximity of peer institutions.

The gap is starting to widen between the have and have nots in college football, which I think makes it harder for the football schools in the MVC to even think about moving up to FBS. The only way the Valley breaks up is if some combination of Big East/A-10/Butler schools get a new start-up conference and raids the Valley.

                    Respect from other conferences.

The past 3 years the MVC has received the same NCAA tourney $ (based on games played) as the SWAC.

2 conferences between the CAA/MVC/A-10 would be legit.

Well, let CUSA and the MWC do what they want to do. I like the Valley the way it is right now. The only way change would be acceptable is to add two good teams out of the likes of Xavier, Butler, Dayton, ODU or VCU as an example. I'm not in favor of tearing the league apart, just adding a couple of teams to solidify things. And I still prefer ten teams in order to keep the balanced schedule anyway.

By the way, pay attention to the CAA. Just inked a big deal with NBC to get some football/basketball on TV, and there's rumblings that some of the football schools (Ga St, ODU, a couple others) want to move on up to FBS.

Has to be on Versus or something like that, right? Who wants to watch CAA football? NBC has Notre Dame. It has to be for their new sports network or an affiliate.
