  • Let's get Physical

In the majority of Valley games that BU has played, the opposition seems much more physical than in seasons past. Is that a reflection of the league as a whole? Or is it just the other team's strategy to grind us down physically knowing we don't go too deep?
I've never seen Evansville be more physical than us...until this year.
Seems like we are trying to get tougher, but just can't match the other Valley teams.
Something Geno will have to keep in mind when recruiting...and to get guys that are mentally tough too.

The Valley is super tough! When a team the likes of the Bluejays drops back to back games, neither of them being to the shock! enough said, unless you wanna pretend none of these teams our any good since they play in the valley lol

I agree - we need tougher low post defense - I have been hoping to see it all year since Game 1, we leave the lane wide open and everyone, even last place-caliber teams have a field day with open dunks and layups.
I would love nothing more than to "use" a few more fouls and make some of them HARD FOULS to enforce the lane - I am sure a few of the players would oblige - we need to DIS-courage all those easy inside shots!

seems our game plan is to avoid being physical so we don't foul -
anyone notice that even our starting center's fouls-per-game figure is unbelievably low...

Here- compare every other Valley post player who has started even a few or played even half the minutes JP has played...

      Prosser 42 fouls/25 games
      McDermott 44 fouls/25 games
      Echenique 56 fouls/25 games
      Jordan Clarke 77 fouls/24 games
      Kraidon Woods 62 fouls/24 games
      Kenny Harris 68 fouls/24 games
      Ryan Sawvell 50 fouls/21 games
      Carmichael 66 fouls/24 games..Wilkins 68 fouls
      Myles Walker 60 fouls/24 games
      Weems 83/25 games
      Jake Koch 47/24
      Tuttle 46/25
      seck 76/24
      Daniels 64/21
      Stutz 61/23 games
      Hall 61/24

Caleb Patterson - is the only one close - and really doesn't play a lot down low as a low post guy, 33 fouls/20 games and way fewer minutes than Prosser

In the years we did have a strong low post presence-
      2005-2006 O'Bryant 74 fouls/25 games
      2006-2007 Zach Andrews 133 fouls/35 games

We do sorely need some hard-nosed physical defense from this team. Especially in the post...we are way way way way too soft down low. Make a few hard-fouls when we've got someone coming inside for a lay-in. They WILL think twice about it next time!

IF we can play solid defense (like we did for most of the game vs. Mo. State at Carver), it will create some offense for us and help us out. We also need to take care of the ball in transition. I've seen these guys throw the ball away numerous times when we are on our way to a 2 on 1, 3 on 2, and even 3 on 1 fast-break. PLAY TOUGH DEFENSE, VALUE THE BALL, PLAY AS A TEAM; GET A W!

        Go Braves!
