Question: Are there "moral victories"?

What does everyone think...

but here are two thoughts of mine --

-first - that I have heard at LEAST a dozen times in the post-game interviews after we have lost - that one or more of the players and then Geno, when he comes on, state without hesitation that "THERE ARE NO MORAL VICTORIES" or that "this loss was NOT a moral victory"....

-second, more than a few times, the newspaper articles after losses try like he**to build a case for a "moral victory"...

-"Another moral victory in season full of them for Bradley" - LINK

-"There are only so many moral victories to be had.." - LINK

-"..factoids on which to build a moral victory. And moral victories stink." - LINK


..but this is odd -- despite at least TWICE trying to BUILD his case for MORAL VICTORIES, Kirk Wessler goes kinda schizophrenic by saying this...
"Now, I am not a believer in moral victories." - LINK
...so which is it???

Kind of depends on your definition of it.....if it's a matter of appreciating a team playing well against a team that you are overmatched against and want to call it a moral victory I don't have a problem with it

I don't think you can have season full of them....but if you take a team like Western who loses to Michigan in Ann Arbor by 3-4 points...then I would call it a moral victory....

This year for us if you lose to WSU or CU on the road in a close game you could say it's a moral victory.....but that's about it in our conference anyway

UM was a moral victory. No other ones as far as I'm concerned.

OK I will give it to you straight, lefty..a loss is a loss but regardless - if it's reported one way then it should remain consistent - not a loss for JL but a moral victory for some other coach...

For years every time we've lost - even if it was a point or two or a close loss to a really good team - it was still a loss plain and simple...

You can google all you want but not once in nine years was JL ever given the courtesy of or given the break of any loss being credited as a moral victory...
They were all losses and JL was held accountable for them...

but now suddenly - even tho they say repeatedly that they DO NOT believe in moral victories - the losses NOW are suddenly softened and called moral victories...and obviously nobody is then to blame because there's good involved.....that's hypocrisy...

I guess I must be only one who sees the hypocrisy in the way it's being reported.

I know I felt a lot better after the loss at Michigan than I did after the loss at home to Evansville.

Last season every loss was a humiliating loss....and it was all on the head coach and he had to go...we read it after every game...

this year - multiple 30-pt blowout losses even some at home to other bottom dwellers are now labelled a string of "moral victories"

You crack me up T....I personally don't care what KW says about it.....I think it's a pretty good question that people would have different opinions about.

I see it. It exists. I'm sure most people see it. But I would rather be happy that KW is covering the team the way is covering it now, instead of wishing that he would go back to hating the coach. Why would I want that?
