With all of this talk about the new coach....losing his team...not ready for the valley..over his head chatter that is flying around, I just wanted to add some info to the fire. ( I mean discussion)
Some people are saying to wait 3-4 years and lets discuss it then...but what do we want to see in 3-4 years? What do we expect the record to be? Should it be way above .500? slightly over .500? Maybe be AT LEAST .500?

ok....Lets say at the end of year 3, we have the following records.

    A) 36-49
    B)38-47
    c)46-53
    d)78-25

Which one would make you happy ?

These are the actual records, of the first three years, for the following coaches:

    A----Dana Altman at CU
    B----Coach K at Duke
    c----John Beilein at Mich
    d---Chris Lowrey at SIU

Rome wasnt built in a day, and neither was BU basketball. When its all said and done, GF might be the right guy for the job....or then again he might not be. We will know for sure, years down the road. Im gonna keep the faith, and hope for the best.

Feel free to argue amonst yourselves-

I think if Les was fired in 05-06 like he basically should have been at one point.....everyone would definitely be willing to wait 3 years

I expect next year to be a very sub-par year but if year 3 does not show a market improvement to a MVC .500 team then I'm off the GF bus. I expect year 5 to be a the year we are 1-2 in the Valley. Anything else would mean we are not going forward. The change was spun because we never won the Valley with JL.

I think that sounds about right for expectations.

Trying to be as realistic as possible, a sub-par season next year would constitute us getting at least 6 Valley wins. Anything less would be unacceptable. With 2 supposedly solid recruits that should pick up Geno's style pretty quickly (HOPEFULLY included in there is our future PG), WE's return, and his recruits of JC, SS, there can be no excuses why Geno did not improve significantly after this dismal season. And we still have DSE, who should be at least 2nd team All-Valley next year.

Barring injuries next year, we're looking at a depth chart of 8 guys who should get at least 7 minutes per game (worst case scenario) who can contribute POINTS - not just minutes. And 10 guys who should at least touch the court every game. I love Charron's hustle and attitude, but I will be disappointed if he plays in half our games next year (unless he's our 2nd option as PG behind Bell)

          JP, NW
          WE, TP
          SS, JE
          DSE, JC
          WL, KB

I'm not giddy with this lineup just yet, but it should make a big difference to have some depth next year.

Don't have any info, but if I had to guess I would think we will have a couple other new players next year also. But I guess we won't know till summer probably.

If it is just the two new players(Pickett and Bell) next year, I don't see much improvement next year.

I will be disappointed if we only get two new players next year. At this point GF can recruit over a lot of players with eligibility remaining. I'm trying not to directly call out any players here.

I also agree with the expectations posted above.

While the record is concerning, I am more concerned with the offensive sets. There has been some improvement, but it just doesn't seem like our offense is designed for anything other than taking guys off the dribble.

Maybe we aren't running plays to get open shots because we shoot poorly, but that is what concerns me.

but here's the problem - we're NOW almost as deep into this next recruiting season as we were when Geno got here a year ago and of course guess what you get if you go out and sign someone this late...

You get exactly what we're seeing everyone gripe about - a bunch of recruits that people say aren't going to help...

My question for people who want to see some MORE scholarships open up for this fall and Geno land a few more recruits is...
JUST WHO are we going to get...anyone you have in mind or just hope for the best??
The vast majority of available recruits for 2012 are already committed - pickings are slim....so are we not likely to have the same problem next year that we have this year?

Exactly. I'd rather just see these guys work their tails off to improve this summer than bring in another handful scraped of the bottom of the barrel. Especially WL and SS, if those guys make some good progress during the offseason it will help a lot.

GF was hired after the season not early Feb. Also they should have someone they have been already recruiting. There are players on this team that shouldn't be playing at this level.

I've also seen it said more than once that every player on this roster should be "run off".
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Agreed! 6 wins and maybe 12 to 14 overall would be a decent step up. Not good, but at least more competitive.

Our offense actually seems slightly better at times. But our defense is still an absolute mess more often than not.
