I'm not here to argue but it is, sometimes, laughable about how uneducated people are on the topic of climate change yet they spew whatever they hear. To each their own but at least have a legitimate argument on it...not one that "science has been wrong in the past" which is very true but equally ridiculous as a point of contention, and I'm not saying this is you.

The ONE THING that bugs me the most about this topic is when people look at one season and use it as fact for proving or disproving climate change. The second thing is that it isn't GLOBAL WARMING because it isn't, the poles are warming. It is scientifically climate change, because that is the discussion...the change of the climate. Lastly, most people don't know, but any respectable source would never admit to current temperatures being proof of climate change. As a matter of fact most credible sources don't believe any effects have taken place, the thing of concern is, for those math guys, the rate of change with regards to temperature and more specifically carbon content in the atmosphere. Cut through all the jargon and what it always boils down to is 1) Do you believe there is more carbon in the atmosphere than 50 years ago? 2) Do you believe carbon in the atmosphere traps low energy heat waves after reflecting off of surfaces?

    Simple as those two questions.
Question #1, no. Question #2, I would need to know a little more regarding the science of carbon trapping heat.

Yes, I have studied a lot of info regarding this issue from both sides. I did watch Al Gore's movie with his "hockey stick" analogy regarding the "exponential" increase in temperatures and carbon. It was a well made film. I can understand why he won an award for it. That said though, I think it was full of junk science that almost made "The Day After Tomorrow" look like legitimate scientific research!

I don't think anyone denies that there has been an increase in temperatures in recent decades. But I do know the previous four winters around here were very reminiscent of those brutal winters that I still remember from the late 70's to early 80's, and a couple in the mid 90's. Maybe not quite as cold as those winters, but still very few warm spells and lots of snow. Chicago just broke the record for consecutive 50+ inch snow seasons with four in a row. That has never happened since records started to be kept in the late 1800's.

I understand that most of the global temperature change has occurred in the poles, but I question whether or not it is as extreme as some have made it out to be, and most importantly I question whether that is a result of mankind's influence or just a natural cycle, be it from the earth or sun. And, yes I do not base my conclusions from one abnormal winter like this one. But this is an issue that will continuously be debated for a long time, despite the cries from some *****s who feel that this is not a debateable issue anymore! That's a silly conclusion to make, since the beauty of science is that there is ALWAYS room for different opinions and nothing in this universe is 100% certain. I hope the debate continues.

Better safe than sorry is my opinion on this to be honest. I'm not even sure if I completely believe in it, but I'd rather do something about it before it's too late just in case. Where's the harm in that? I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to have the world be a little bit more environmentally responsible.

I think it's great if we can clean up the environment in the name of making the air a little safer to breathe, and just because things are pretty dirty to begin with. I think you need common sense type of cooperation between the government and businesses. The reason is because if government forces businesses to make immediate massive changes, many businesses won't have to money to comply to new regulations which will inevitably lead to companies shutting down and massive unemployment. So there has to be gradual changes leading to a cleaner environment.

So yes, I'm definitely for a cleaner environment. BUT is should be done under the guise of man made "global warming", which IMO is something that may take decades to actually prove, contrary to the crowd that thinks the debate is finished.

(Warning- this is OT & a re-hash of an old thread...)

it's been pretty cold here so far in 2018, but I got a call from one of my sons who lives in the West Palm Beach, FL area...
it's been quite cold the past couple days (at least "cold" to them) and was 37 degrees this morning when they got up....

Their newspapers and TV weather-casts are constantly broadcasting FREEZE WARNING for much of the state - LINK - LINK
..and I even heard from a friend at FGCU, that their last couple home games had a few more than the usual no-shows because those Floridans hate such cold weather when it gets down into the 40's!!

This time of year with so much darkness, so overcast, so cold is getting very hard to take year after year. Really hard. I feel I need to be here for Mom, but after that, I just dont know what would keep me here all year.
