  • Walt Lemon Jr

Walt is a Soph!, like i've stated before, studies show players make there biggest strides in the off season going into there JR season, There is a ton of pressure on this kid and he's learning a new position! His style of play and body language and fact the ball is in his hands a lot, make him a easy target. He's not going anywhere! Geno knows what we have in this kid! A Stud, he can get a pretty high percentage shot at will! And as defenses rotate to him, he needs to do a better job of dropping it down, but, his team also needs to be moving for that to happen not watching, also we know hes gonna try some circus shots some are gonna go down, but hit the glass hard early you know hes gonna shoot before they do, beat them to the spot and tip it in! We have asked him to become the point guard of this new system! That is what he is doing! Doing a good job too I might add, so let him do it! tho, right now is a down to his ups and downs. The big 3 and now Stix!, are gonna right this ship, heck we arnt even a lock to play thursday! The big 3 play well 50 pts, 24 rebs, 15 assists, this kind of production they are more than capable of and with it then we only need a 3 here and a 3 there, a layup here steal there, and a great defensive effort from the others, this is why we sometimes get caught up in " got to get mine" moments. Anyway, Enjoy Walt Lemon. YaH hes gonna make us scratch our heads but he's gonna make us say wow, thats our Walt right there too! Heres to it being more often than not! This team has as many ?'s and x factors as this post has grammatical errors! But, I honestly see this all coming together. Here we go! Its gonna be a fun end to the ride that has been TB and STIX!

Walt has a great deal of talent. His biggest problem is his own attitude- he gets down when things aren't going his way. Some players can turn that into better production, but for Walt, it takes him out of the game, and opponents are starting to catch on and target him.

I dont think he gets any help from the refs either. I cant wait to see him smile and celebrate. That'll be a good sign that we have started to turn this thing around. We just have to get a winning streak started and see how far we can run with it. Heres to peaking at just the right time because thats the whole trick to this!

Love your optimism! I really do and I'll leave at that.

Great points, but like dc said, he can't get down on himself and have a game like last night where he could have cost the team the game. I would have sat him down in the second half as a teaching moment. Then let him start the next game.

Walt trys to carry the team too much when things are not going well , it seems like a lot of our players try to be the difference maker as none of them want to lose , they need to realize that they need to play more team ball and forget about the individidual play.

I question Walt's basketball IQ.....by now his decision making should be better than it is....as fast as Walt is he can't carry the team by himself....
I like Walt and I know he is being asked something to do that isn't in his DNA but he should be learning more all the time and not be making the same mistakes as he did last year and early this season.

Right. He needs to stick with the team concept even if they come away empty on an offensive possession or two, or after they give up 5 or 6 quick points. It's not the end of the game as all teams go through bad streaks in each game. Winning teams don't consist of players trying to win a game by themselves. Walt still needs to learn this, and nearly two years into his career here he should know better.

Making Walt the point guard is not fair to Walt.

It all came together last season the last 10 games or so. But what did it matter? The good thing about it coming together THIS season (if it does) is that it might carry over more to next season under the new system.

Looking at the schedule, if we win 3 more games, I'll be happy. And 1 of them HAS to be vs. ISU (red)!

No more 1st halves where we find ourselves down by double-digits. No more double-digit losses. No more regressing, but only moving forward and getting better.
Would be nice to have TB finish with a bang, but the rest of the team MUST come together and improve if we want this thing to go in the right direction.

If we beat UNI and almost beat MSU at home, then there IS a way to ISU red. ISU will be the favorite, but not counting us out. It will be like our Superbowl game.

I didn't see the Creighton game so it isn't fair for me to assess the situation, but a teachable moment like you are suggesting could be a strong wake up call.

My question here is, can this be blamed on Walt's basketball IQ, or the system he is asked to run as well as playing out of position? I feel it is a combination of all the above. Two out of three of these aspects are easily changeable especially with a game film session or two.

                              I agree on that one.
