  • ISU player leaves team

Illinois State basketball coach Tim Jankovich said Friday that junior guard Darious Clark has “taken a leave of absence” from the team.
“He’s dealing with some personal issues,” said Jankovich.

Darious Clark is a junior college transfer from Cecil College in Maryland. He has played less than any player on the ISU roster, just 4.9 minutes per game, and he has played in only 9 games. He has only scored 4 baskets all year, and 3 of them were against Chicago State when he played 11 minutes.

This will free up one of the scholarships Jankovich needs for the recruits he plans to add next year.

that's really funny - the ISU fans were wondering which Bradley player would be forced off the roster to free up a scholarship --LOL
I believe they already have more commits than they had rides open..so this was coming..

      I'm still wondering.

      Aaron Simpson... Come on down!

if any BU players leave it would be obvious that it's because they see no future in the present system of a new coach and leave on their own with no other players that are ALREADY verbaled and locked in to take their scholarship as happens elsewhere

Maybe Clark really is taking time to deal with some off-court issues.
It is best not to assume in situations like this.

Maybe. But then maybe he's just not as good as Aaron Simpson, or any of the dozen other 2012 kids Jank is out recruiting.

How much has he played so far? It's always a little suspicious when the kid that leaves "for personal reasons" also happens to be the kid who gets the least playing time.

Darious is a very unique situation - he is a juco kid so he has only 2 years left - and he is leaving before the end of his first year at D-I..
the only other similar examples I can find ...all were allowed to stay & play at least a full year and none had their rides pulled half way thru their first season at D-I

Yes, no question he can score. But the bigger question is whether he will qualify. The reason nobody else offered him is his grades.

I've heard things are moving in the right direction, but who knows?

Any report on why he was suspended by his coach for last night's game?

I'm still wondering why people feel Geno will be allowed to force kids off the roster. Is this the way he's done things in the past? Will the President allow him to force kids to leave?
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

What was made public (forgetting equipment last game) doesn't seem to fit the punishment.

I agree, seems likely there is more to it. But it didn't seem to hurt his team. They went 2-0 with him on the bench.
