I feel like if we try to play more physical we are going to be fouling out

I think you are correct. Most of our guys do not have the quickness to get their feet in the proper position to guard closely without fouling.

But we give up way too many points in the paint that some adjustments are long overdue. SIU, which is not a very physical or big team scored 38 points in the paint against us Tuesday. That is probably more than they have scored all year inside against anyone, and a sign of a defensive problem that needs some tweaking. I suspect I am like most fans. I wouldn't care if we foul a bit more, we need to be more physical inside.
But I actually don't think it would lead to an increase in overall fouls. We already foul a lot because we are late to react to opposing players getting the ball inside, and that leads to fouls and three point plays. Maybe by being more assertive and taking an occasional "hard foul" we would see teams become a little more hesitant to take the ball right to the basket for easy layups.

I also think some of our lack of defense is due to our lack of depth on the bench. Our starters are playing too many minutes. Playing good defense takes a lot of energy. Maybe AT should play more minutes.

This is what I perceive too, DC.
We have been typically one of the weaker/softer teams when defending inside in the Valley. It's time to change the tide!

JP really needs to work on his defensive positioning in the off-season. He gets beat a lot. TB just isn't a strong enough defender in the paint either.
Hopefully TP will help with that next year, and WE and NW get a stronger mentality to bump and grind in the low post.

I guess we have to wait until we get to 6-16 to make adjustments? smh
              Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Play At and JP at the same time. Even though AT isn't neccessarily a threat on offense, he alters shots and runs the floor well. And the team seems to have more positives when AT is in the game.

Nothing is going to change it will be the same starting line up and we will get beat by 25 or 30 and we will go home.

                      Exactly

I know it wouldn't be a great stat for basketball but I wish there was a +/- stat for basketball players. In hockey its the greatest stat IMO since you can track who is doing damage to your team.
Well let me just quote the late-great Colonel Sanders, who said..."I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."

How many games and practices have you been to? You seem to always have a suggetion or a negative comment about GF or the staff on their offense or style!! I am sure you probably have a vast expierence of coaching Div I!! Where do you or when did you coach?

                            truth

He is always commenting on Geno's style or pay!! What makes him such an authority on all of it? It just seems to me maybe he should just worry about how he can coach his UC Davis team out of the cellar!!

I know most don't care about Arizona State, but they are really bad this season. Last night they started their "twin towers" and finally came within 6 points of winning. What would it hurt for the Braves to try it.
