Geno on SOS

Geno made some comments last week about our SOS being better than where he likes it, Whoever it was that Western Carolina spanked by somthing like 100 pts he said he wanted to schedule games like this, I would rather never win again than play a bunch of nobodies, I hope next yrs schedule is not a bunch of cupcakes!. I dunno if in the MAC you can get away with not preparing for conference play but in the Valley you must play as tough of a non conference schedule as possible, for at large possibilties, to be ready for a valley run! I dont see us winning many Valley titles w/ a rpi of 299!


With that said I am 100 percent behind Geno and this team! Go Braves, I think we have somthing in store for the dirty dawgs!

WCU's 102 point win was over Toccoa Falls University, who is not even an NCAA school. So it doesn't impact their RPI or SOS one bit.
I hope we don't take scheduling tips from Tim Jankovich, since it cost them 2 or 3 NCAA appearances.

I'd be interested in the context behind the statement, if he wants a softer SoS only when the team is worse, and that the SoS should be better for a good team; or if he just wants the softer SoS in general.

That is a little worrisome to hear this. But as others stated, I would like to see/hear the context of this comment as well before handing out judgement. Is there anywhere we can see the transcript or video of this statement?

I can see if you have a young team that you would consider a softer schedule but I'm hoping this losing is only here for another year and than we should be on our way to consistent respectability. I'm not a fan of playing a soft schedule if you have a decent team. I'm not sure in what contents this was said but I believe in a well rounded schedule and play the top teams whenever you have a chance. How can you aspire to be the best if you never play the best. I'd rather see how our program stacks up against the A teams then the also rans. If GF goes in the IlSU direction of scheduling I will be the first to start jumping off his bandwagon.

Geno made some comments last week about how bad Avanti's is. He said it was cheap and greasy and he wouldn't eat it if it was the last food on Earth! Gee guys, I hope this isn't true. I'd hope Geno would recognize local businesses and want to help them prosper. Well, for now I'm 100% backing Geno, but if he starts talking about the horseshoes at Richards, well by golly, I'll be the first to jump off this sinking ship!

I like avantis, but yea I just made this up, i cant belive no one else heard this it was him and Dave it was pre game or post game at evansville! My source is wmbd and Geno's mouth and my ears. I didnt say anything about EVER not supporting him I dont wanna see a 1000 wins out of him if we never beat anyone! Look at his scheduling resume not along of quality wins or big name coachs hes out coached but hes my guy and I am behind him!

Previous threads such as these would have been deleted for being "unsubstantiated" or "spewing hate". This board has made quite a remarkable shift in what's allowed to be posted about our own coaches. I can't wait to see what kind of flip-flopping people over here will be doing in a couple years when we're actually winning.

This board has made quite a remarkable shift in what's allowed to be posted about our own coaches. Don't be sorry, but it's hard to understand how Geno could come straight out and say "We need a weaker schedule". I'm assuming there must have been some other context that was missing. Do you remember any questions or comments that led up to that statement?

I would almost bet his scheduling comments were poking fun at this years struggles somehow and he's not terribly serious. I'm not worried at all and I'm also pretty sure Avantis isn't that great either... Perhaps he was secretly hoping for ten Gondolas on his doorstep the next morning. Maybe if he had a few years with those gondolas he could turn them into some pretty fine shooters!

Dave asked somthing along the lines of, if he had tried to contact his mentor about the game, he said he called but had not talked to him but he wasnt calling for any other reason than to find out how to schedule games like this, he went on to say that our sos is alot higher than he'd like it, now i'm not against learning how to win against easy teams but looking at his past schedules we may be looking at some gimmies next yr which may not be a bad thing!
