  • This year vs. last year

Since others have brought it up, I have decided to compare the two teams. Some say that this team should be better and everybody knows it. I just dont see how. This is not a knock on the players. In fact I think we should have been better last year AND this year but to say we should be better this year I just dont see.

I don't see what that proves?
Andrew Warren was a very good player, but he would not have averaged anywhere close to 18.8 ppg last year if Taylor Brown and Sam Maniscalco were playing.

Sorry, the stats are kind of hard to read. Anyway, we lost our two top scorers. We did get TB back. I find that an even swap with AW. I dont think we can fairly give an edge to either one. Then we lose Dodie and Will. The only meaningful addition so far besides TB is Shayok. Not to say that Crawford or the other recruits wont be meaningful in the future, it just hasnt happened yet.

Another poster said we should be way better than last year. I am saying I dont see it. I posted stats since that is a measuring tool of what we have/had.

As for Andrew, you could say Taylor wouldnt be averaging as many points/rebounds if Will were playing. We have what we have. I am trying to defend what we have now.

OK, even if we concede all your points, last year's team took time to adjust to playing without 2 starters, and after the 11 game losing streak, they won 6 of their next 9 to finish with 12 wins. Are you expecting this team to do that? Let's revisit this topic after the year is over and see if we saw that same improvement we saw last year.

6 out of 9, no I dont see that happening. 3 to 4, yes. If we had Will maybe that puts us at 5. If Shayok can play as a freshman like Dodie did as a senior maybe that adds to your 6.

I like how you ignored the extra year of experience for every other player.

I am trying to forget about last year. Can we at least concentrate on the program for this year and beyond.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I think we're unable to judge until we know who will be here next year

Isn't that why teams are supposed to get better?

This is true, he gets 30 a game ok not 30 but defenses were geared to stop him last yr, his numbers wouldve been better! If they could be, I mean he had a really good year! Far as DD, he was a heck of a defender and somone who made everyone better, to compare him to ss is unfair true freshman vs juco tran in his sr yr.

I think there is still plenty of time, this season is not lost, I look for dse to have a nice bounce back into form game against SIU also Pross has put togeather back to back great games so things are looking up! We will be better this yr than last but I'm not saying we SHOULD be just that we WILL be!

lets not panic, lets not force Geno to fire anyone, lets let him do his job, I think he is doing his job and this is coming from a Les guy! To me Les will always be more, but Geno is our coach and a good one!

I didnt ignore anything and if I did, I did it for both seasons. The guys on last years team all had a years added experience from the year before. Plus, their experience was in a different system.
