All I ask is stop playing this style until you get the players that fit the system. These players do not fit GF system, so why can't the coach adjust to the players instead of the players adjusting to coach? These players are better than 1-9 in the last ten games..... On the other hand, I think that Bradley overreached and painted themselves in a corner with this hire. Given the reported salary and term plus JL's buyout, there is little room for error if things don't work out.
For me, I still think many are mad about JL's firing and are going to "attack", be "negative", or whatever until either Geno is fired or it becomes obvious he will succeed to some level.
If you are mad at the administration, fine. Just say that. Don't rip the coach and the players. When I criticized Jim, it was simply because I didn't think he was a very good coach. I like Jim as a person. I thought Jim was an exceptional fund-raiser. I just didn't think he could coach.
If anyone says look at UC-Davis we get a long story about how bad they were, and how many recruits they have coming in. We are also told you can't judge Jim in year 1 there because he doesn't have his guys.
But, they treat Geno the exact opposite way and it's labeled fallout. To me, that is disingenuous.
That's all I am saying. Do I wish BU were winning more, yes. But I do think Geno should be given time. Believe me, if we are sitting at the bottom in years 3,4, and 5, then I will criticize him too. That would be fair. I don't think it is right now. When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Originally posted by Da Coach View PostWhat is disingenuous is to keep dragging out this comparison between Bradley and UC-Davis- these 2 are not even close. UC-D was one of the worst teams in one of the worst conferences with almost no D1 talent when JL inherited them. Bradley was never that bad. The 9th place finish last year was an abberation, and we all know it. Jim's teams were competetive and there was a decent pool of talent coming in for this year if the coaching change had not happened. People can deny that if they want, but a lot of fans believe we would have been very good this year. Instead, we are looking at possible the worst season in decades, with no assurances that things will get better. Like many Bradley fans, I am willing to be patient, but what example can you or anyone give us of a turnaround or success that this administration has accomplished in any athletic program? As others have said, we are spending millions of dollars (donated by loyal Bradley fans) and not seeing any results, and we are not just talking about men's basketball. Why do some people just blindly believe success will automatically follow because changes were made? It hasn't happened yet in any other sport, has it?
I also do not know anyone that blindly believes success is guaranteed for Geno. No coach is guaranteed anything, ever. Geno could fail. Geno could coach here 4 or 5 years and never get it turned around. I have said that many times. If that happens, I will call for a change again, just as I did when Jim was failing to get BU into contention.
The problem I have is some thing Geno was left a fully loaded team. Give me a break. You say UC-Davis had no D-1 talent. Well some think BU did not have enough to run what Geno wants to run.
It's too early to judge Jim or Geno, IMO.When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Originally posted by Chico View PostCome on guys, please stop attacking Geno over his past record. He's our coach now. He didn't fire Jim, he was hired to replace him that's all. Let hope him and JL both turn their new programs around.
I didn't think fans would be fed up with Geno's results this season, but it's starting already.
Despite the dismal record thus far, I'm happy with Geno as head coach - great personality, seems to be on the same page with coaching staff & players, and stays upbeat about the future, which feeds off of his team. I also have liked his use of time-outs in game and how the offense & defense has shown small gains...well, at least for a game or two. Of course, as a fan, I have my criticisms of Coach Ford too, but he has a method to his "madness".
Let's take this 2nd half of the MVC season to keep looking for small improvements.
In 2 of the last 3 games, I've been pleased with taking care of the ball (with exception of not concentrating on "catching" it), solid rebounding, and limiting the opposition's spurts.
The only beef I have with last game was how we executed down the stretch in the final 2 minutes, but I'm not going to play coach. For 40 minutes, it was the actual players who struggled to get the ball in the hoop - not Geno. He had the guys very well prepared and playing hard for 40 minutes.

But, in the end, I was wrong. Jim was not the right guy after 9 years.
So, when the wins kept dropping off, and there were no improvements to be seen I did call for a change.
I admit all of that.
I admit I wanted Jim out. No qualms about saying that.
But, now there is a new coach. Same as before, I am supporting him. I am going to give him time to build his team, his program, his vision.
No more, no less.
If Geno cannot turn it around, then I will support making another change. I just want BU to be on top of the Valley. Jim got 9 years to try. Let's give Geno at least 3 or 4.
