Dave Reynolds mentions a couple new books that would be of interest to Bradley fans--

It looks like this book is being produced by someone from Peoria, but no mention who. It comes with a DVD of old highlights, and the book likely contains phots, too.

The Missouri Valley Conference is putting out a book called "Missouri Valley Conference:A Century of Sports".
The book will cover multiple sports, not just basketball. And although Bradley played a significant part of the MVC's history, they will cover all the schools that have taken part in the MVC in it's 100 year history, including a bunch about schools that have long since left the MVC.

One of my buddies is going to be pissed, one of his goals is to write a book on the history of Bradley Basketball, looks like he's been beat to the punch. I guess there could be more than one though. Thanks for the links, looks like some interesting stuff.. I don't know a great deal about the history of Bradley basketball, I'd like to learn more.

Hey Funch--- I have lots of stuff that might just be invaluable to putting together a history of BU.
I have old game programs going all the way back to the 1930's, I have the press guides all the way back into the 1940's, and I even have a near complete library of all the Bradley yearbooks all the way back to 1904, with stories about the basketball teams and the players.
I also bought the personal collections of a couple other people who had taken notes, gotten autographs, and saved stuff from all the glory years of the late 40's and early 50's.

Some day, when I have the time, I also am going to help put together some info, especially adding the names of all the BU basketball players from 1903 through the 1940's that the BU athletic office does not have complete accounts of those names.

We should get together some time, as I hope I never have a fire or termite damage to all the stuff I have at least 'til I can compile it all onto a disc.

One question...does anyone else have a full, mint, unopened box of Wheaties with Hersey Hawkins on it??
I doubt so, I may be the only one in the world!
....and one of my kids admitted to me she was tempted to open it a year ago and see what it tasted like.....but she didn't. :lol:

Wow! That is quite an impressive collection T. You need to open a Bradley Museum. Seriously! You could rent a small building near campus or ask BU for a dedicated room at Bradley Hall. Maybe even ask for donations.

I'd love to see the collection next time I make it to P-town :-o

There already is: Good Evening, Bradley Basketball Fans. It was written by former PA announcer Bob Leu and has a foreword by legendary Cubs broadcaster Jack Brickhouse, who got his start calling Bradley basketball games. It's a great source for everything Bradley, pre-1976 (the year it was published). I've got a signed copy.

Apparently some bookstore in Missouri has one for sale....

I have it from some various sources though that there is another book in the works that goes in detail into the pre-history of basketball including the actual roster from the initial game that is different from the one previously listed, including some feuding between Bradley Polytechnic Institute and the YMCA. It will be interesting to see if this author did the same intensive research.

Another thing I would be curious about is if the DVD has Versace's Hawai'ian meltdown. . .I've never seen it.

Typically with coffee table books, they can tend to be skimpy on detail, so there would certainly be room for others on the market.

With last year's success, I would imagine that there will be several books coming out.

I have also confirmed that Borders will be carrying the book, although, quantities are going to be limited so this will certainly be a hot local holiday item. . .

I could offer some contributions to the Bradley museum (although I will likely have to die before anything is donated ). I have jerseys dating back to the mid-80's, programs, autographs, playing cards, Sporting News issues, newspapers, media guides, trading cards, KABOOM! buttons, basketballs, hostile and abusive merchandise, and ticket stubs. Last year was quite a year to add stuff to the collection, and someday I will have my own personal BU museum. Site and groundbreaking TBD...but you're all invited!

A BU fan in Georgia has many of the famous BU games from the Hawkins era on VHS. I have been on him to get these remastered on to DVD and start to sell them.

Wow, I thought I had a lot of BU stuff. I have many programs from the Fieldhouse days, but just a few from the Civic Center, plus several years of press guides. I also have many of the games taped from the Hersey era. On a rainy Summer day I get them out and relive the Versace years. It looks like Jim is taking us back there.
