  • Rushing the floor

Sorry to rehash this old topic. But I just watched the end of last night's Indiana-Nebraska game that was replayed on the Big Ten network today.
Nebraska trailed most of the game, then pulled ahead right at the end and won 70-69.
The students rushed the court and a celebration lasted forever with the players and the head coach out on the floor high-fiving students and fans.

Coming into the game, Nebraska was 1-5 in the Big Ten and tied for 10th. Indiana was 3-3, and tied for 6th place. I can understand their jubilation for beating a pretty good team, but even after the win, Nebraska remains all alone in 10th place in the Big Ten, and Indiana drops into a tie for 7th. I thought it was just a little excessive.

And Un-Ranked team beat a Top 25 Team. That's big no matter where they're at in the conference.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

I think it had a bit more to do with those students getting seen on a national TV network, which rarely happens to Nebraska basketball.

I thought that was excessive too. But, Northwestern fans also stormed the floor last week after their win over then #7 Michigan St. That was a great win, but for a team that has never made the Big Dance, I thought that their fans storming the floor was a bit premature as well.

Hey - they beat a ranked team in exciting fashion and it was also the 1st time they'd beaten a ranked Big Ten opponent as a Big Ten team and also the first time they had beaten Indiana since 1920!!!

IMSVHO if Bradley wins any games for the rest of the year, the fans should rush the floor.

I'm assuming you are talking about Nebraska tornado. If that's the case then I agree it was a great win because that will help Creighton's RPI!

I think our team would really benefit from a court storming, Ill take anything at this point but storming the court win or lose saturday maybe just what we need lol Sportscenter headline, Last place teams fans storm court after loss, Bilas would rip mid major fans for weeks lol Go braves!

I don't like fans storming the court. It definitely happens far too often now, and a player is going to get hurt at some point. This topic was discussed on Around the Horn recently, and one panelist suggested that they should stop showing the court storming on TV to try to reduce it.

No more gatorade showers for coaches either,it could do eye damage or ruin a sweater! Not showing streekers or people running onto the field on tv stopped that, wait no it didnt, we just act like its not there, Like our middle class dont show them on tv pretend they are not there they will just go away!

Too lazy to look it up, but was Michigan State ranked with they came to Peoria?

Do you think a storming of the court would have been excessive if they won?

I have mixed feelings on storming the court. Every situation is different IMO.

A last second shot against a rival could cause ONE person to run onto the court and the rest follow. When emotions are high, you just never know with college kids...

.......Why are you bringing middle class politics into a floor rushing topic and a basketball forum, leave that at home.

Anyway back to the discussion at hand. So are you insisting that we show streakers and fans rushing on the court/field during games? As much as fans want to be you are not apart of the team. You don't celebrate with the team during other wins, you shouldn't be celebrating during a "big victory". It only takes one drunk fan (and people that are the first to rush generally are) to make a dumb mistake like getting in the face of an opposing team member and starting a fight.
Well let me just quote the late-great Colonel Sanders, who said..."I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."

for the most part a team storms the floor if and when they beat a better team that they never expected they could beat and are so thrilled and captivated by the moment they lose all control...
Thankfully BU has rarely ever been so bad as to be in that situation although I think it could happen this year save for the fact that there are no more good opponents coming in since we already played CU & WSU..

I see no problem with fans rushing the court after a big win. Rushing the court is not about the big picture. It's about what happened that one night. Unless it's something like Duke fans rushing the court after they beat Norfolk State, then I'm generally OK with it. If the fans feel like their team beat a team that is better than them, then what's the harm? Storming the court happens all the time in college basketball and rarely results in any problems.

I find Gatorade showers stupid too but don't care if they continue or not. Players and coaches have been hurt by fans on the field already. I don't care one bit if a fan gets hurt when the rush the court, but the players need to be protected. It just takes one ***** to end a kid's career.

If you want fan on the field/court issues: Monica Seles stabbed. Royals coach attacked at US Cellular. Palace at Aubrun Hills (also why players should not go into the stands).

                              Harrison body-slams fan:
Cleveland station's coverage of James Harrison slamming Browns fan who ran on the field. Has a great angle of the hit. Awesome.
