    I used to believe this team had the talent, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that we don't have MVC talent on the team. No knock on any of the players, but as a whole, this roster just isn't built to compete in the MVC with any team. They're just not good enough. And I hope people can realize that something like that can be said and it's not a personal attack on the players.

    That said, I'm a bit worried about the defense. We're giving up scores that aren't supposed to be attainable in MVC play. It seems more like a talent problem than scheme problem at this point, though. I think the offense will be fine once Geno gets his players in.

      Just curious. Did BU recruit the Nelson kid from Lincoln?

        BU followed him as closely as any other D1 team, but he had only 1 D1 offer- Evansville.

          He was definitely considered a "tweener". He could just as easily ended up at a school like IWU. As an alum, I'm disappointed that EIU didn't offer him. His dad, Jeff, was a two sport athlete at Eastern.

                Geno has proven that he can coach and win at the D1 level. These players have never won at this level. That's the cold hard truth. There is some talent on this team, just not enough of it. Add the lack of depth and players playing out of position and this is what you get. Not the players fault, just the way it is. They just need to play hard and keep trying to get better every day. Geno's future will be determined by recruiting, period.

                  "this 24 point difference on the scoreboard is NOT due to some massive difference in talent --
                  anyone who says so is entitled to their opinion but they are wrong if that's what they think...it is not a talent difference -"

                  I guess I am wrong but I disagree with you 100%. We have no where near the talent level as any of the other 9 teams in this league. As I stated on another post ,we may have one person who could start on the other 9 teams and I'm not sure he would start at CU or WSU. He probably would but would have to change that "me ball" he seems to play alot. I'm not saying his "me ball" is wrong considering what we put out there with him. This has nothing to do with fallout it is because of who we've brought the past 5 years. No help from the Sweat 16 and thats ashame.

                    If they are objective they would agree with you. Something tells me that won't happen with some people. It's going to get better but it's down the road.

                      Regarding our lack of a team offense concept, someone needs to tell Geno and his staff that you can't strike a match while you are underwater

                        Is there a talent difference between us and Wichita State and Creighton. YES! But we are talking about getting smoked by Evansville here. The talent differential is not that great between us and Evansville. Do we have an incomplete team? YES! Can I tolerate a close loss on the road at Evansville this year? YES Should we get our a** handed to us by any team like Evansville? Absolutely not. And that is an EMBARRASSMENT! From what this staff is getting paid, they need to show that they can do more!

                            Just for some perspective....

                            EU valley record- 4-4
                            4 wins-
                            SIU +18
                            BU +23
                            @UNI +11
                            @MSU +5

                            4 Losses-
                            WSU -1
                            Drake -9
                            @ISU -2
                            @InSU -2

                            EU is much better than many people give them credit for. They have been in every game they've played in the valley.
                            Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

                              Small thing: It's UE (University of Evansville), not EU.

                              Since they just throttled us, the least we can do is call them by the correct abbreviation.

                                I guess we will have to disagree about the talent level between us and EU and us and the rest of the league. I think there is a big difference and we are proving me to be correct. You can blame it on the coaching staff and I will admit I do not like the way we play as individuals but I'm not as quick to place the blame there until we clean up this mess he was left with. If and when he gets his own players in here and we do not compete then I'll be more willing to place the blame where you do so often.
