bingo -- the defensive changes seem to get all the headlines - but seriously - we held them to 31 2nd half points - not too much different from the 36 we allowed in the 1st half..
but the enormous difference was the 54 points we scored in the 2nd half and 54% shooting - compared to the 1st half's 24 pts & 35% shooting.

The difference on offense party sprang from the defense but there were other changes, too......on offense..

Note in the 2nd half we were unquestionably passing better and sharper and trying a little harder to get it to the low post..
and much of the BIG run where we erased the 10-pt deficit was when AT was playing....
This clearly opens up better outside shooting opportunities...
I think AT needs to play more - maybe BOTH AT & JP at times...

UNI has several accomplished big men - Jake Koch, Seth Tuttle, Austin Pehl, Chip Rank -
and note that WE outscored them in "Points in the Paint" 24-18...
Pretty impressive if you've been following such stats thus far....
Guess how many Valley games we've won the "Points in the Paint" battle??
Only one - we barely edged Drake by two while their best big man Van Deest is out but we just lost by a 34-16 & 48-12 margins in our two games vs. Wichita...and 42-26 against Creighton....


And PS - congrats to Coach Ford on MVC victory #1 - let's hope it's just the first of 500 or more!

couple of things there...their bigs don't score much in the paint...I think Rank was 4-6 from three...at least from this game points in the paint doesn't have much to with the bigs.

Let's face it we need to do well both offensively and defensively to be a success

Tuttle, Koch, and Pehl, tho, their main players in the paint - account for almost 1/3 of their minutes and 21.2 ppg, 13.6 rpg...
but we held them to 15 pts, 8 rebs ..

Agreed....I think our offense has been so poor, that it has affected the defense. When you are consistently missing open looks, lay-ups, etc...it wears on you. It does play into your action on the D end.

You obviously need both ends of the floor to be working together, and we got that yesterday
