  • Stops, bunnies, and the 3-ball

To me, these three things swung the game.

BU's biggest string of stops in the 1st half was 3 possessions. They missed at least 7 short (in the lane/lay-ups) shots in the 1st half. They only had 2 threes that I remember in the first half.

Second half......BU put 7 stops together during the run they used to take the lead. That stretch culminated on the amazing (Top 10 Sportscenter???) alley-oop to Taylor Brown! Also BU drilled 6 threes in the second half.

What a great job by Geno and the players. Geno burned 3 timeouts in a minute in the first half to stress D. The team went to zone in the 2nd half and really forced UNI to take time off the clock and pass the ball. BU had their hands in the passing lanes and got a ton of deflections. We also only had 3 turnovers in the 2nd frame.

    Great win...and much needed!

+1. The timeouts really helped send a message as well. But the change in defense REALLY threw UNI into a loop!

I am a little confused why the zone messed up the UNi team so much, you would think that with their 3 point shooters they would grin when we went to zone, but they didn't !!! Thats why I love college bball

We were so much more active in the zone....we deflected quite a few passes in that zone and it seemed to put UNI in a funk

well, first - it was kind of a bold move given they were shooting well from 3-pt range...but
it was a tight match-up zone where nobody was allowed to stay open on the perimeter - and we challenged every shot -- it forced them to move a bit more to get open and when the did they weren't so accurate...

For some reason though, their shooters were reluctant to launch shots against the zone, they did have plenty of good looks, but they persisted in trying to pass into it. That worked in our favor.

It did. We got our hands out there a ton!

Just saw the box score; 54-31 in the second half. Can anyone say, "turning a corner"?
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

I think that may be premature, but I do think Geno coached the game differently today.

I hope they learn and grow from this one.

I think it helped in this case because it took the ball screen, drive and kick away from them somewhat....they still hit 4 threes against it, but at least it made them somewhat 1 dimensional.....when we were in man, they had everything going....Also we did a good job of rebounding out of our zone, thats a big key.

Dyricus catching fire really baled us out....not sure our offense was that much better....as much as him just hitting some amazing shots....but Ill take it!!

I agree with this sentiment entirely. I saw MAYBE, a little more motion off the ball, but not much different with the offense. This is one of those games where both TB and DSE were on, and I think that's what it's going to take for us to win. I expect it to happen 2-3 more times this season. I didn't think the offense was much improved. But I am happy we didn't let the lead slip away. Sometimes you have to 'learn' how to win.

TB passed very well when doubled and we made shots.......but as I said in another thread there were a few more set plays today too....

I agree with your point about TB, but I am looking for more of an improvement on a system level. I have pretty big fears of actually regressing next year with TB leaving...

Possibly......we need more than 2 more players next year IMO.....we need a pure shooter for sure with more inside help too
