I spotted a customer at work today wearing a Bradley shirt. I asked him if hes been to any games this year. He said he hasnt been to a game in three years and that Jim Les ruined the program. He also said they should have hired Wayne McClain. The point of this is that the "public" says a lot of things. Much of it is laughable and means nothing. Granted, my "public" was one person and not the thousands I'm sure some here are talking to.

Hard to believe we aren't better this year. We return our best player in TB, we have healthy DSE, we return experience in WL, JE and JP. We have 4 new recruits who were hyped and yet we use a closer than expected loss to Creighton as a mark that we are getting better. Pretty sad. The truth is that this staff hasn't done a very good job with this team. Of the recruits GF has brought in only one, SS, has played significant minutes and made any contribution, and at times that has been little. The loss of SM and WE obviously hurt, but it is tiring reading KW talk about how are talent level doesn't match other teams. I think GF will do a good job, especially when he brings in his own players, but for a guy who loves to run up and down the floor he has the players on his roster now who can do it, and except for ONE game they have not been able to do it. KW and DR keep saying how the team plays hard, yes they do - but that has always been a trademark of BU teams. Our sweet little President, bless her heart, expected more of this group you can count on that. One of the reasons she wanted JL out was she was afraid with what BU had coming back the team would be good this year and she wouldn't be able to fire him. A new guy would come in and reap the rewards of having a veteran team and make her look good - then SM left and WE got hurt - kind of jumped up and backfired on her.

Good luck to GF and the Braves the rest of the year and in the future. GF doesn't make excuses (he has KW and DR to do that for him) and I like that.
The facts are this group has underachieved, they still have time to turn things around, I hope they do, but this coaching staff has been here since March/April - the success or failure of this team is their responsibility, not that of the previous staff's.

I thought AW was our best player last year? TB didn't play at all last year...SOme of these arguments don't hold much water, IMO.

Some don't like the change(duh), some don't like the President, and some just throw around what-ifs and I told you so's... This team is about what I expected... Growing pains and bad losses included... Highly touted is what I expect every coach to say about all his incoming recruits....

Ok. Other than 4 posters on here, I don't know any fans that share that opinion. I think most realize that this is a process. I think they realize you don't rebuild ruins in 1 year.

I have never heard Geno say anything different. I personally, do not think we have underachieved. However, if you want to say we have....what the heck did we do the last 3 years??? There is no debating this team has less talent then any team the past 3-4 years.

This is Geno's team, no doubt. But to judge him without any of his own players is a bit strange, IMO. If we are sitting here in year 4 or 5 and we are at this record, ok. But, 4 months into season 1 is a bit much.

I personally also think it's pretty low to bash the President at a time like this. I certainly pray that she is doing well with her health.

If you are so outraged with the lack of effort of the team and coaches, give me your tickets. I know many people who would gladly take them!

I never mentioned Jim making excuses. I was referring to the arguments of posters over the past several years.

You are judged by what you do. GF is feeling that now. JL was fired because of that during his tenure.

If you aren't seeing excuses being made this season, you aren't looking very hard. They are everywhere. Most are valid. GF himself has a littany of them every postgame show. I don't have a problem with it, but you can't say they don't exist.

I agree with the philosophy of the second statement, but in no way is GF being judged by the performance of this team. If he was, he'd be getting a lot more heat.

This is completely untrue. One of Jims favorite sayings was "the guys arent buying in". That is the very definition of an excuse. Am I saying it wasnt true? No. But to say he never made an excuse when this was one of his go to lines is just false.

That being said, none of that matters anymore.

I will edit it down to reiterate my main point....

I think many are stuck on comparing GF, in year one, with Jim after 9 years. People are usually more forgiving or realistic about a coach and team in year 1 then they are after watching it for 7.5 out of 9 years.

If a first year coach says, the players are having a hard time understanding what it takes to play the style or brand of basketball I want....that is one thing.

When a coach in year 9 says the players aren't buying in...that is different.

The guy in year 1 didn't recruit 95% of the players. He didn't recruit guys that are his style and type. He doesn't have any veterans who know the routine, drills, expectations, and every other minute detail that make a program and vision.

The guy in year 9 would have all his own players. Most of the recruits would have been signed because he exactly fits the style or goal or vision of the program. All the veteran players would be in line and step with every detail, drill, set, etc of the program.


We need to get past comparing Geno in year 1 with the expectations of Jim in year 9. It cannot be done.
