we have mentioned McGhee before - he was recruited and signed to EIU before this season ever started and he's blown up this season.
As a freshman last year he was at Paris JC in Texas and although talented, was not a star...
Before that - out of high school he had signed with North Texas University but then did not qualify so headed to juco.
He averaged just 7 ppg and hit just 26% from 3-pt, and 38% overall as a freshman at Paris in just 21 games....
and although I won't go into all the details - he had a few "issues" that caused him to miss a few games and ultimately look for another school to play at so he transferred to Dodge City...
In the meantime most all of the recruiting interest dropped off....
At a summer juco camp in July 2010 - he opened a few eyes but still didn't get new offers...so in the fall he signed with EIU.
Now that he's signed to go to EIU, there's virtually NO WAY he change his mind. He sure can't go to prep school and EIU would be crazy to willingly just let him out of his LOI so he can go somewhere else....so unless he goes overseas to play pro ball or quits altogether for at least a year, he's gonna be at EIU.
TP plays very physical defense, and thus gets in foul trouble occasionally. He is not afraid to take a hard foul. That is actually one thing our coaches like about him, and a trait we sorely need.
Some have brought up the name Coty Clarke and said we should go after him as well....and mainly it was because Clarke's numbers were quite a bit heftier than Tyshon's a couple months ago....
As the season wore on and Coty's team Lawson State, started playing tougher competetion, then gradually his stats have declined..
But Tyshon's competetion has been consistently the strongest jucos, and his stats are improving...
Now Tyshon Pickett is averaging 14.8 ppg/9.4 rpg/61% FG accuracy
Coty Clarke is averaging 16.9 ppg/13.7 rpg/59% FG accuracy
...and considering Tyshon has played against 10-12 opponents that have been in the national rankings, and Coty's team hasn't faced one yet -
then I might say we might have an equal or better player
After a 21 pt/13 reb game last week - Tyshon starred again last night in a narrow loss at the buzzer to #3 ranked Barton Co.... 83-81
Tyshon had 22 pts but I don't have the rest of the stats yet...

Good. The Braves could use a Matt Salley type player again.
Official Stats for Tyshon against Barton were as follows.
22 points
10 rebounds
3 assists
2 blocks
1 steal
1 turnover
8-14 on FGs
6-8 on FTs
here's a link to the box score - he also played 33 minutes - largely with foul trouble and did not foul out...and was instrumental in rallying his team from down 16 points...
Tyshon had 10 pts & 5 rebs at halftime, but the entire rest of his team's starters were just 5-16, 15 pts combined....so he kinda carried them
Dodge City missed a lot of chances at the FT line as they have done all year - They shoot only 62% as a team !
6-11 form the field, 12 pts, 12 rebs, 3 asst, and a block in a 69-66 win over Colby in which his teammates shot poorly - especially RJ McGhee who went 0-6 from 3-pt range
Tyshon was 10-16, and 6-7 on FT, 26 pts, 14 rebs, 3 blocks and an asst.
Here's the box score - it doesn't always cut and paste real well...
