  • Tyshon Pickett news ...

BU signee Tyson Pickett was hampered by fouls all night in Dodge City CC's huge game against top 10 ranked Hutchinson at Hutchinson...

but he was still able to contribute a little for his team to beat the nationally ranked powerhouse Hutchinson Blue Dragons... 78-75.

Tyshon only played 16 minutes and ended up fouling out...but he still scored 7 and grabbed 4 rebounds and defended Hutch's top scoring PF Alex Davis holding him to 3 pts/3 rebs.

Tyshon Pickett's Dodge City Conq's beat #7 ranked & previously UNDEFEATED (14-0) Barton County CC squad last night 92-86 for the 2nd win in the past 3 nights over Top-10 ranked opponents!!

DCCC is now 14-2 and 2-0 in the toughest juco basketball conference in the nation -

    (I should have stats later..)

Tyshon's stats from the last game..
6-8 from the field, 1-1 from FT line, 13 points, plus 6 rebs
      TP's season averages - 16ppg, 10rpg, 1.4bpg, 65% FG shooting, 42% 3-pt FG shooting

again -- they knocked off TWO Top 10 ranked teams back to back so they HAVE to be ranked this week!
..last week they weren't even in the top 20 and were only 11th in other teams receiving votes

The pollers in the NJCAA are brutal --
Tyshon's Dodge City CC is 14-2 and has lost ONLY to two ranked teams ..and are coming off a week where they upset TWO Top 10 teams one of them on the road...
And yet - they still did not crack the Top 20 ..landing as the 2nd team in "Also receiving votes" so they're #22..
Both Hutchinson & Barton dropped out of the Top 10 after losing to Dodge...
They have more chances to move up as they play another Top 20 team next week - Seward

We could use 1 more wing player like him plus a 6-4 or bigger shooting guard and a 6-9 center that can defend and rebound, any idea"s?

That is an impressive stat line and he is consistent as well. Very much looking forward to seeing Tyshon here next season.

I like the way you are thinking (because we need more power in our game), but I don't think of Tyshon as a typical wing player. It looks like he averages less than 1 3 point attempt a game (just 5 of 13 for the season)

Also to be noted is that Tyshon's early stats were in part affected by him only playing 18-20 minutes in some of the blowouts, and he's also had a couple games where fouls limited his production...
BUT the past 1-2 weeks now are their juco conference games...their hardest opponents night after night - in fact TOP 10 ranked juco opponents...

Dodge City has historically been one of the also-rans in what's BY FAR the toughest juco conference on the planet..

There may be other tough juco teams but top to bottom their conference that includes Seward, Cloud Co., Butler, Barton, Hutchinson, Coffeyville, Highland, Independence, Ft. Scott, Pratt..is the toughest night in and night out...
FULLY HALF (eight different teams - Coffeyville, Cowley, KCCC, Seward, Dodge, Barton, Hutchinson, GCCC) of their conference are in the rankings currently - and that means they are playing against Division I talent every single night and no pushover teams the rest of the season...
Here's an additional shocker -- THREE of the BOTTOM four teams in their conference standings are ranked teams who find it hard to even beat the unranked teams that are above them in their conference and thus fall to the bottom despite being ranked TOP 10 (Barton & Hutch are both 1-2 and near the bottom of the conference!).

Tyshon should be ready to play at this level when he gets here...

Hey tornado, you wouldn't happen to have Theron Wilson's stats from Seward would you? I think it would be kind of interesting to compare those to Pickett's, seeing as how they're both from the same juco conference and are semi-similar players.

Here are Tyshon Pickett's stats as of 1/12/12. Tyshon plays a different position (PF) than Theron, who was more of a slasher/wing player in juco, and Tyshon also plays fewer minutes than Theron did.-
                        14.9 points per game
                        9.4 rebounds per game

Tyshon has three other double digit scorers on his team, and Theron had only one other, thus I think there's not as much of a burden for Tyshon to have to score --

Theron had a lot more shot attempts per game.

That's true, Tyshon's team is a lot more stacked than Theron's was. Theron also played a lot more minutes if I recall. I was just curious to see their Juco stats side-by-side. Thanks guys.

If Tyshon can come close to giving us what Theron did, then I say that's a well-used scholarship. Judging from the differences on FG%, is it safe to assume that Tyshon is a bit more of a post-up, back to the basket type scorer, with outside shooting and jumpers being secondary?
