    Bulls win season opener

    The Bulls just pulled off a great comeback over the Lakers 88-87 after holding the Lakers scoreless the last two minutes during a 7-0 run. But I guess it's just not Bradley that has free throwing issues as at one point the Bulls were only 4 for 9 on FT's before making their last six, all while the Lakers missed their last four!

    So I guess the moral of the story here is that if the free throws don't go down, even the best basketball teams aren't going to win games! And even the best NBA teams sometimes have free throw issues.

    Nice Bulls win in LA

    a couple steals and a great bucket by Derrick Rose at the end and a block on Kobe's shot by Luol Deng - Bulls come back from a horrific 3rd quarter where they were outscored 20-12..
    Rose finished 9-13 and 4-6 from 3-pt - 22 pts/5 asst
    Kobe did not hit a 3-pointer and had 8 turnovers - so perhaps that wrist is hurting him

        Did the Lakers get rid of Zach Andrews?

          Andrews isn't listed on the roster.

          CHI played really well at the end of the 4th, but they looked just horrible during the 3rd and early 4th. It's not easy to win at LAL, and CHI clearly needs to integrate Rip into the offense. Good win.
          I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

            LA isn't as good as in the recent past, but anytime Kobe is playing, it's not an easy game to win, especially on their home court. So this is a quality win right off the bat.

              Kobe had a bad foul in the backcourt that gave then two ft's and a turnover too that led to game winning basket

                  I watched the reply of the Bulls-Lakers game this morning and noted some things that I thought were both eerily similar
                  yet different from the Bradley-Michigan game...showing that judicious use of fouls and time outs can get you back in a game from a double digit deficit at the end...

                  -with just 3 and a half minutes to go Bulls were down 11..and they were still down 8 under 2 minutes..and down 6 with only 45 seconds!
                  -over the final 3:30 the Bulls started using their time outs
                  -the Bulls start using their fouls on the right players - Brewer fouled twice and both McRoberts & Gasol missed BOTH FT's
                  -then the Bulls played incredibly tough, in-your-face defense (causing turnovers) rather than sit back and let LA dribble out the shot clock.

                  In the end the Bulls made up an 11 point deficit over 3:30 to win by 12 - outscoring the Lakers 17-5 in that stretch.
                  In last Thursday's BU-Michigan game we likewise trailed by 11 with 3:30 left, and we did foul twice but we only fouled after letting them run considerable time off the clock -
                  and we never once called a time out anywhere in the final 8 minutes even though we had one left.

                  Oddly as I look at the play-by-play - we did burn two time outs in the 1st half at 4:47 & 3:45 when there would have been a TV time out at 4 minutes anyway - and two more earlier in the 2nd half but we still had one remaining the last 8 minutes

                    It always bugs me when a coach calls a time out when the tv timeout is just seconds away.
                    What part of illegal don't you understand?

                      Don't forget on a pass in the end of the game one of the Bulls went up in the air and came down before the pass leaving his hand. The bulls won that game because of poor free throw shooting, and an assist on that call. The ball should have went back to the Lakers for a travel.

                        That no-call on Luol Deng's possible travel is a call that NBA officials are much less likely to make in the last few seconds of a game that earlier in a game. I think most NBA fans want to see the players determine the outcome of great games like that, and not a borderline whistle by the officials. As a long time Bulls fan, I have seen plenty of games the Bulls have lost because of no-calls like that at the ends of games.

                        For the record, I do think Deng was guilty of a travel, but it was very close. For those who didn't see it, here it is-

                          It was close. I think he probably did travel, but I'm not positive. The end of the Knicks v Celtics game resulted in a bad call. It didn't much look like Melo got fouled... College and the NBA aren't officiated the same way. It can be difficult to switch back and forth.

                              I realize that, but saw it called many times when that wasn't the case.
