Mac Irvin, known as the "Godfather" of basketball in Chicago has died at age 74 from complications of diabetes. He founded the Mac Irvin Fire AAU program and built it into a perennial nationally prominent AAU power.
I know several of our posters knew Mac Irvin, and he was a great guy. He was influential in drawing big sponsors like Nike into summer AAU basketball, and developing AAU ball into what it has become.
